BREAKING: The City of Cornwall has released official election results which increase Mayor Towndale’s vote share from 2,141 to 4,559. This does not change that Sarah Good was ultimately elected mayor last night, but her margin is significantly less, and turnout significantly higher, than originally thought.
On the City of Cornwall’s statement regarding the Official Results of the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections, the City disclaims that they have officially certified the results of the election. They go on to state that there was an error in vote tabulation regarding the mayoral race: “…the votes cast for Justin Towndale, were updated from 2141 to 4559. This was due to a display error of the unofficial results caused by a human error…”
With this, the original margins of the race are cut significantly. The City has now certified Councillor Good as the mayor-elect, but the official results have her receiving 53.9% of the total vote, which now sits at 13,993 votes counted, rather than the initial 65.2% displayed at the City’s event at the Benson Centre on election night.
As for Mayor Towndale, his vote percentage sees an increase from 18.5% to 32.6%. This follows what many city residents felt was an impossibly low number of votes for the Mayor as results came in on election night.
These extra votes also slightly lowered the vote-share of the other two candidates, Art Levert and Nicole Spahich, who see decreases from 13.7% and 2.6% to 11.3% and 2.1%, respectively.
This new information increases total mayoral vote turnout to just under 14,000 voters, a significant increase from the roughly 10,000 residents who voted in the 2022 Mayoral Race.

- John Cameron (6,142 votes)
- Dean Hollingsworth (5,639 votes)
- Todd Bennett (5,299 votes)

- French Catholic School Board of Eastern Ontario: Pierre Morin (acclaimed)
Human error has caused a candidate falsely declared a winner in the unofficial results — some of Donna Nielson’s votes were not initially counted, so the unofficial results had Krista Ryan ahead of her. With the updated vote count, the City has informed the public that Nielson, not Ryan, has been elected as the Catholic Board’s second trustee.
