OUT and ABOUT with Seeker Chick Mai-Liis braved the tsunami storm in Cornwall tonight to get to the Cline House Gallery for the Opening Reception of the "FaceTime" Group Exhibit where 22 artists explore portraiture in 22 very different ways. I really enjoy opening nights as you get to meet and chat with so many artists and find out about how their creative processes work. I was hoping to see more self portraits but I was told that self portraits are one of the hardest works to create. When I asked Melting Pot Studio • Candice Nixon what is the meaning behind her piece she answered, 'it is open to interpretation' as I believe all the pieces in this show are. I am standing beside my favourite piece by artist Adrien Piette as I truly feel like his sculpture quite often. Time flies by fast and we spend way too much of it agonizing over things that really aren't that important. That is why I live by the saying, "Everything happens the way it is meant to". I find that at one point in time the opening receptions were filled with familiar faces but more and more I'm getting to meet new faces and many young ones which is so nice. The show runs until September 21 at the Cline House Gallery located at 304 Second St. E. In Cornwall. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm so come on down and check out the many creative interpretations that can emerge when artists focus on the human face.
