Why is Keeping Office Floors Clean during Pandemic Important?

When Coronavirus was at its prime, hundreds, if not thousands, of people were getting infected each day. A lot of people still are because they are not following the CDC’s safety measures and/ or neglecting wearing masks properly. One of the most dangerous ways that can infect a large number of people is unclean floors. If your floors are not cleaned carefully and periodically, you might face a big problem, especially if your workplace’s floors were trodden by someone who was infected. Cleaning your office floors in accordance with the safety measures on the CDC website is crucial. Here is why.

The Biggest Germ Collector

Unfortunately, floors in our homes and workplaces can get dirty really quickly if there’s no one to clean them. If we’re not too careful, our floors will soon become a literal playground for germs and the virus. Unless you leave your shoes outside the house, your shoes will typically transfer about 90% of the bacteria outside to your floors, which will endanger you if they aren’t cleaned properly. Studies have also shown that bacteria can live for long periods on surfaces and our shoes. While studies on the virus itself haven’t confirmed that yet, there is still a great possibility that this might be the case as well for COVID-19. That’s why it is essential to keep the floors in your office, workplace, or home always clean.

Shoes Function as Carriers

As we’ve mentioned before, your shoes can carry germs and bacteria it picked up outside to your floors; thus, allowing it to live on for a long time and endangering anyone coming into contact with them. Earlier this year, a study was conducted in a Huoshenshan hospital at the height of the virus. This study examined swabs taken from the floors of the ICU and the wards in which infected patients were treated. The results showed 94% of the swabs taken from the ICU tested positive for the virus while the swabs taken from the ward were, of course, tested 100% positive. While your office may not exactly be a hospital ward to treat coronavirus patients, the folks at https://executive-clean.com/floor-cleaning-services/ say that you must keep your floors clean in these dire times, especially if you have a lot of people coming in and out of your office. If something as simple as the soles of our shoes is carrying germs, bacteria, and, quite possibly, the deadly virus, then maintaining your office floors at all times must be a top priority.

Long Lifespan of the Virus

As you already know, coronavirus is transmitted through sneezing, coughing, physical contact, etc. This can make some people favor protecting themselves through self-isolation without realizing that the virus can be contracted if it is on surfaces or floors of their houses. Viruses can live in cold and dry environments and remain infections this whole time. Coronavirus is also capable of living on non-porous surfaces twice as long as porous surfaces. Carpets and upholstery are considered porous; therefore, they may be considered a less than ideal environment for the virus. Your floors, however, need to be cleaned properly to avoid this danger, especially that the virus can live on floors from 2 hours to a few days. It’s unclear, unfortunately, how long it can stay on your floors, but better safe than sorry!
