Cornwall Ontario — On Monday, September 21, City of Cornwall officials and representatives from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cornwall and District will raise a flag in honour of ‘Big Brothers Big Sisters Month’ for September. The flag raising ceremony will take place at 3pm at the Justice Building on Pitt Street in Cornwall.

“We are so pleased that the City is once again honouring Big Brothers Big Sisters and the important work that our volunteers do,” said BBBS Caseworker Danielle Brisson.

“This community really comes together for our kids.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada is celebrating 102 years of providing mentoring programs for children and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cornwall and District has served Cornwall and area for over 40 years. The local non-profit organization matches adult mentors with children and youth ages 6-16 in need of a positive role model for weekly outings and activities.

Children enrolled in BBBS mentoring programs demonstrate improved school retention, peer and teacher-student relationships, as well as increased leadership skills and community involvement. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cornwall and District relies on community volunteers, donations and United Way funding to operate its seven free mentoring programs for area children and youth.
