Yoga Pants for Plus Size Women – How to Pick the Best

Finding the best yoga pants or leggings that are practical and comfortable that also look flattering isn’t an easy task. This is especially true for plus-sized women. The struggle to match the available options with your likes and wants can sometimes be a bit of trouble to accomplish. We have put together a mini-guide on how to choose the perfect pair of pants that will be suitable for you.

Yoga Leggings versus Pants

Many people might not notice the difference between yoga pants and leggings, even though they are quite distinct. While traditional yoga pants usually end with a flared or a wide leg, leggings feel more like a second layer of skin on your body. The waistband of the pants usually folds over for support. With leggings, you have to pay attention to the waistband as sometimes it might get too tight that it upsets your stomach, and ends up showing a “muffin top.” While many plus-sized women might prefer yoga pants for the comfort and the way they flatter their bodies, wide legs might get in the way and make it more difficult to move around. While you are choosing a pair for yoga only (not for running errands or for wearing them during the day), you need to consider the ease of movement and how stretchy they are.

Yoga Pants Style

At some stores, it’s harder for heavy women to find a huge collection of different yoga pants and legging styles. That’s why it’s important to determine the fit and the size you find comfortable before considering the style you want. However, the internet made it possible with all the websites that offer different models and reviews for yoga pants, especially for overweight people. Nowadays, you can find many plus-size options that are reviewed for you to determine whether they will suit your needs or not. Reviews usually focus on the different factors that you need to take into consideration, such as breathability, UV protection, stitching, and materials.

The Length

The style and the length of the perfect pair for you depend on the type of yoga you practice. You need to make sure that you pick something that suits the type of movements you are going to be doing while making sure that the pair will flatter your body and give you the confidence boost you deserve. You can choose between Capri and full-length models. Capri styles usually end below the knees or mid-calves, or a little lower. They are much better during the summer for their short length and ease of movement. Some people even prefer shorts to capris or full-length ones. This goes back to your personal preference regarding which style you would be more comfortable with. However, you need to consider the weather you will be wearing your yoga clothing in. Some people prefer to walk out of their house wearing their yoga clothes without having to change in the studio and it definitely will be impossible to wear your yoga shorts in the middle of winter.

What to Look For

After you determine the style, fit, size, and length you would prefer and that would suit the type of yoga you are practicing best. There are some other factors to look for to pick the best yoga gear.

  • Material: Most high-quality yoga bottoms are made of a blend of polyester-nylon-spandex for a good reason. These fabric balances comfort, breathability, stretch percentage, and the flexibility they offer. Make sure that the material you choose isn’t itchy and won’t bind or chafe.
  • Comfort: Practicing yoga, especially, if you are a beginner can be hard. So, it’s important to make sure that your clothes aren’t making the whole situation tougher than it needs to be. You don’t want a pair of pants that are too tight that they hurt or too loose that you have to pull them up every five minutes.
  • Breathability: Regardless of the type of yoga you are practicing, sweating is unavoidable. That’s why it’s important to make sure that you are wearing breathable and moisture-wicking material that will keep you comfortable and cool. Cotton may be better for the stink; yet, it usually leaves you hot and damp, giving you chills after the class is over.

It’s important to put some time and effort into finding the perfect yoga bottoms for you. You need a pair that won’t end up pinching your hips or sliding in the wrong way instead of highlighting your beautiful curves. Other than finding the perfect fit, style, and size, you need to consider certain important factors such as breathability and material. Additionally, choose a fabric that is moisture-wicking.
