1- What is your event and how did it come about?

The event is a drive through Halloween where the children can treat or treat from the safety of a vehicle. Stations are set up by local businesses, individuals and organizations that provide the treats for the children. It was born as an idea that Chantal Gilmour and Terry Muir had after seeing something similar elsewhere.

2- What is your event in support of and does it reoccur every year?

The event is an initiative of the Optimist Club of Cornwall and is not a fundraiser but merely a way to put smiles on everyone involved. The common opinion is that door to door canvassing on Halloween has been decreasing for many years and if the community likes this format it could be a regular event each year.

3- How does your event help make this community a better place

This event helps the community by providing a safe area where children can still trick or treat without the risk of walking in traffic or dark areas. It once again shows how this community comes together to benefit children.

4- What is unique about your event?

What is unique about this event is that it allows anyone to participate. Whether you are a business owner or someone that wants to hand out treats but you don’t get the traffic or you are an organization wanting to give back to the community. It also is unique in that children can remain in their vehicle safe from traffic and any elements of weather. As always, there will be a provision for those without vehicles to participate.

5- How can people participate or help make this event a success?

People can participate by providing funds to be used to purchase treats, helping to decorate the area, setting up a station to hand out treats or combining with another group to have more treats available at one station. They can contact us at optimistclubofcornwall.org
