Cornwall, ON – Seaway Senior Citizens Club is gearing up for another busy Fall with a wide variety of activities, classes, programs, and special events geared to those fifty plus in the Cornwall / Akwesasne area.

Welcome to our new blog series, where Bill and Jenni MacDonald take you on a weekly journey to discover the hidden gems of South Glengarry in Eastern Ontario. Over the course of 21 weeks, we’ll share our favourite attractions and activities in the area, all based on our personal experiences. Let’s begin exploring the incredible South Glengarry, stretching from the St. Lawrence River to Valleyview Road and from Boundary Road to the Quebec border.

Reason #3: Char-Lan Recreation Centre

The Char-Lan Recreation Centre in Williamstown is a hub of activity in South Glengarry, offering a variety of sports and recreational activities for all ages. With the only indoor arena in the region, it’s the perfect place to stay active and engaged throughout the year.

A Winter Wonderland for Skating and Hockey

From September to March, the Centre offers free public skate days, sponsored by the Township of South Glengarry. Additionally, “Stick and Puck” programs are available for hockey players looking to improve their skills.

Spring and Summer Sports Galore

In the warmer months, the Centre hosts ball hockey and lacrosse leagues, as well as Nordic pole walking activities. Racquet sports enthusiasts will love the two tennis courts and four pickleball courts available from May to mid-August.

Activities for Seniors at Tartan Hall

Located on the second floor of the Char-Lan Recreation Centre, Tartan Hall offers “Balance for Life” physical activities for seniors. The fully licensed facility is also available for private event rentals, complete with tables and chairs, a full kitchen, bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and an audio system.

For more information on the Char-Lan Recreation Centre’s hours and activities, visit the South Glengarry website at Recreation Programs and Activities – South Glengarry.
