Exciting news for history enthusiasts and adventure-seekers alike: the St. Lawrence Parks Commission has officially announced that tickets are now available for three of Eastern Ontario’s most treasured cultural experiences. Whether you’re looking to immerse yourself in the life of a 19th-century village, explore the grounds of a historic military garrison, or delve into the intriguing world of Canada’s oldest maximum-security prison, your next adventure is just a click away.

Upper Canada Village: Step Back to 1866

Nestled along the picturesque shores of the St. Lawrence River, Upper Canada Village offers a unique glimpse into rural village life in the year 1866. As one of Canada’s largest living-history museums, the village is home to more than 40 historic buildings where visitors can experience traditional trades, farming practices, music, and social life of the 19th century. The village will open its doors to the public starting May 4, 2024.

Fort Henry: Experience Military Life in the 19th Century

Kingston’s Fort Henry invites visitors to step into the shoes of 19th-century British soldiers stationed at this strategic military outpost. With daily military demonstrations, musical performances, and special events like the Fort Henry Tattoo, guests can get a taste of military life centuries ago. The fort will welcome visitors from May 18, 2024.

Kingston Pen Tours: Behind the Walls

For those fascinated by the history of law and order, the Kingston Pen Tours offer an unparalleled look into the life behind the walls of Canada’s oldest maximum-security prison. Through guided tours and stories from retired corrections staff, visitors will explore the historic, cultural, and criminological aspects of this iconic institution. The tours are currently available on weekends, with increased availability leading up to 7 days a week starting May 29.
