South Stormont, ON – The Township of South Stormont held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Gala on Friday, April 26th at the South Stormont Community Hall. Themed “A Safari Night”, the event was an opportunity for Council to show appreciation to 120 invited guests that were representing over 15 volunteer organization within the community.
“Our volunteers continue to support this community, the quality of life of our residents depend on the services that they provide. Its important to Council and this Township to recognize all of their efforts, and tonight is a chance to say thank you for your volunteerism. It shows just how much it is appreciated by everyone,” said Mayor Bryan McGillis.
Guests were treated to a night of fine dinning and musical entertainment. Later in the evening, guest speakers Karen and Ray Brunet outlined their own volunteer and fundraising efforts with the United Way of SDG and the important work that the organization is doing across the County and within the City of Cornwall.
The evening included the presentation of the 2023 Youth Volunteer of the Year Award to Treyson Garner for his enthusiastic volunteer efforts within his community, in particular as a dedicated member with the 325 Cornwall Kiwanis Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron where he provides hundreds of volunteer hours on an annual basis.
Finally, the 2023 Fran Laflamme Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to both Mrs. Gloria Waldroff and Mr. Richard Waldroff for their on-going support to a variety of South Stormont non-for-profit organizations and events that enrich the lives of so many within the Township and beyond. Their efforts to assist those in need, support local tourism, beautify the community, and fundraise for community project is unmatched and were praised at the event by Mayor McGillis, MP Eric Duncan, and MPP Nolan Quinn who were all in attendance.
