Hi there and welcome to our sixth edition of Local Spins from Bud’s Records And Kool Things.

First I want to thank everyone who came out to our Tunes & Tattoos event July 13th, it was a huge success! New $20 record drop, vendors, live music and of course tattoos! A great time was had by all. Shoutout to Kayla at Peace Machine Tattoo for really helping pull this together, we can’t wait to collaborate again!

So, in the last issue I discussed how we became Doctor Mom, but today I want to share a little more about how much Bud was a great bandmate. He always made the drive up to Ottawa a few times a month for us to practice. We would start our jam session by going to the record stores but most often enough we ended up at Birdman. This was Bud and I’s favourite record store, it was located on Bank street.

At Birdman Sound (which is owned and operated by John Westhaver) he only specializes in underground music, mostly out of the box stuff like punk rock, psychedelic, and garage music. Bud and I would go to Birdman and purchase albums we had no clue about but that’s what made it fun.

We would get home and listen to our new records before going to practice. We would let the albums that we had just listened to influence our jam session. Bud was so good at being able to spit out amazing riffs and lyrics right on the spot, it was magical to witness it on countless occasions. That’s what we would do… Just rehearse and record ourselves to ensure that everything we just played was captured. We would take breaks here and there, but we mostly Jammed as late as Bud could go before making the one hour drive back to Cornwall. We did this for years, it was the best time. More on that in the next issue.

On August 16th DG vintage is hosting Cornwall’s Night Market (see ad on page 5) where There will be over 50 amazing vendors and Bud’s Records will be there with our $20 new sealed records and other fun stuff. You won’t want to miss out. See you there!
