St. Lawrence College (SLC) has announced the suspension of intakes for 55 programs across its three campuses, starting in the spring 2025 semester. This decision impacts roughly 40% of the college’s programming, including 51 post-secondary degree, diploma, and credential programs, as well as four apprenticeships. Current students enrolled in these programs will not be affected and can continue their studies as planned.
The suspensions come in response to significant challenges faced by the college over the past year. “Since January of last year, a series of federal government policy decisions have drastically affected our ability to grow and operate as usual,” said Glenn Vollebregt, SLC President and CEO. “Many of the changes were short-sighted and did not consider what makes colleges, the regions that we serve, and our students unique. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to supporting our students, employers, and the Eastern Ontario community.”
Some of the programs affected include Business Administration, Culinary Skills, Child and Youth Care, Police Foundations, and Mental Wellness and Addictions Worker. Apprenticeships such as General Machinist and Automotive Service are also among those impacted.
While these changes are significant, SLC reaffirms its commitment to being a leader in workforce development and community support, pledging to continue helping students and graduates succeed in their career goals.
