Cornwall Transit riders will notice an upgrade on Nick Kaneb Drive, just south of Marleau Avenue: a brand new accessible bus bay and shelter is now open.
“This new bus bay and shelter are a big step forward,” said Jean Marcil, Manager of Transit Services. “It improves accessibility, strengthens our service, and makes the #5 McConnell route more convenient for riders.”
Route Change for the #5 McConnell Bus
With this improvement, the #5 McConnell route has been permanently adjusted. Instead of turning onto Lochiel Street from Marleau Avenue, the bus now continues straight on Marleau before turning right onto Nick Kaneb Drive. The new stop is located across from Bridgewood Public School and Southbridge Cornwall Long Term Care Home.
From there, the route continues by turning right onto Holy Cross Boulevard and then left onto Glengarry Boulevard. As part of this change, two stops—Lochiel & Stormont, and Glengarry & Kenyon—are no longer in service.
A Shelter Built for Comfort and Sustainability
The new shelter is powered by a solar panel that provides lighting and heating. It supports the City’s climate action and accessibility goals by offering comfort, safety, and eco-friendly infrastructure that encourages more residents to use transit.
Read to Ride Program a Continued Success
This announcement comes as Cornwall Transit also celebrates another successful summer of the Read to Ride program, run in partnership with the Cornwall Public Library. The program encourages kids ages 5–13 to read books over the summer in exchange for free bus rides. This year, 453 children registered, and by the end of August, they had logged 5,000 rides.
“The Read to Ride program builds literacy skills, boosts ridership, and helps kids develop good environmental habits early on,” added Marcil.
