In terms of Orange Shirt Day, I would like to introduce you to David Maracle, Tehanenia’kwè:tarons – (Cutter of the Stone) of the Bear Clan who lives in the Tyendinaga Mohawk Indigenous Territory:
His journey in Art and Music is Medicine to “Heal Broken Souls” is World renowned, and his most recent music release, “Path to Totality”, is dedicated to “those children who never made it home from those Institutions across Canada and beyond.” David is a RIAA Gold Album Award winning Multi-instrumentalist with a passion for Organic rare world instruments. From opening ceremonies for Parliament Hill to the Olympics the enchanting sounds coming from flutist’s David Maracle’s hand carved cedar flute has a mesmerizing quality, reminiscent of the legendary Pied Piper, in that captivates individuals from all walks of life. As an Artist
David’s Originals in Stone sculptures are celebrated worldwide, with many corporations and private collectors of his work, including the estate of the late Nelson Mandella, the Emperor of Japan, Dan Aykroyd and Loretta Lynn.
David has also released a limited edition coffee table book “Elemental Dreamer “ “ which chronicles David’s 40-year journey as an artist, sculptor, and musician.“I cannot imagine doing anything else in my life; infusing my Haudenosaunee cultural teachings & heritage into my musical compilations and my “Originals in Stone” Sculptures.—

In 2022, as part of Reconciliation, David R. Maracle designed the new Indigenous gathering space in the courtyard of the Albert Street student residence at Queens University in Kingston. Artist Maracle explained, ‘The turtle shell in the center of the gathering space represents Mother Earth.’
