Hi there and welcome to our fifth edition of Local Spins from Bud’s Records And Kool Things.

We are very excited to be hosting our first ever market here at the Maplewood Plaza on July 13th. The market is named Tunes & Tattoos.

We are pairing up with Kayla from Peace Machine Tattoo to organize this event! We will have a handful of different vendors, and of course Kayla with her super Kool Mobile Tattoo Van. What a great opportunity to get a lifelong memory by getting inked at Bud’s Records!

To keep up to date with the market and to see a list of all the vendors go check out our Facebook page at Buds Records And Kool Things or on our Instagram page @budsrecords.

The story of how we became Doctor Mom starts months earlier to when Kevin and I called Sub Pop Records from Seattle and were able to get in contact with Marc Arm from the band Mudhoney. We were lucky enough to get Marc on the phone where we had such intense conversations with him. He was coming to Ottawa later so we made plans to meet up then. A few months later Kevin, Bud and myself went to Ottawa to meet up with Mudhoney at Mavericks, a small music venue located on Rideau St. That night, Mudhoney was playing with The BigMuffs, a band from Ottawa. Mudhoney even gave us a shout out during the show – which was super cool. After the show we were able to formally introduce ourselves and talk music. It was an epic night!

A few nights later Mudhoney was playing at the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa while opening for Pearl Jam. While in the crowd a guy showed us a picture of the 3 of us with Mudhoney and turns out they were The BigMuffs. They introduced us as Doctor Mom and after a few laughs we realized this name would be perfect so we took it!

Don’t forget Tunes and Tattoos on July 13 at 10 am happening at 375 Eleventh Street East Cornwall. See you there!
