Being a Teenager Sucks: Sometimes, standing up isn’t easy.

I know I’m not exactly known for just out right complaining about things, but you know what they say: There’s a first time for everything, and by that I mean that I’m going to spend at least a few paragraphs or more (I can get carried away) explaining about all the struggles of being a teenager. Now let’s begin!

THE CLIQUES

Ah yes a clique, I think we’ve heard this word at least once in our life whether it be from our friends or the old 2000s rom-com movies. If you don’t know what it means let me break it down for you, a clique is basically a group of people that spend time together. Most people fall into the stereotypical cliques such the

  • Athletes.
  • Nerds.
  • Popular kids.
  • Stoners.
  • Band students.
  • Goths.
  • Loners.

Just by looking at this list you can see that these “cliques” are just fancy names for boxes or a food chain. As the name implies, the popular kids are always on top of this food chain, and what I’ve noticed comes with being in the popular group is lack of individuality amongst all of them. It’s like there where some invisible rules set in stone on how to act and speak. Those who choose not to obey these standards are cast aside, gossiped about and everything in between. To me that’s the true meaning of a “clique”, and when school has placed you into this box it’s hard to get out of it.

PICKING ON PEOPLE

By now you guys must already know how I feel about bullying, it’s stupid. Though I will say, it’s not at all like the movies. I’d say it’s more subtle. Little comments people make about you that stick with you for the rest of the day. For some reason, public embarrassment is really common, I can count three times I was publicly embarrassed and school’s just started. It’s usually weird things like trying to get your attention by shouting your name. If you’re anything like me, you’ll hate the unwanted attention it gets you. And they only do these to

  1. Unpopular kids
  2. Weird kids
  3. Kids they’ve gossiped about

Which makes it ten times more embarrassing.

IDENTITY

Usually as a teen, we often feel this lack of identity. We’re constantly in what feels like a never ending battle of self identity. Some days you feel like an impostor, like you’re copying someone’s own passions to fit in but deep down you know it isn’t you. You are constantly envious on how others look or behave but what you don’t know is that everyone is constantly fighting that battle. So my advice is to keep being yourself. And although that sounds like one of those cheesy speeches, there’s no other way to say it. It’s hard, trust me, I know that firsthand, but as long as you be who you are, love who you are and never let anyone make you feel otherwise, these tough years of your life WILL get better, trust me.

CONCLUSION

I hope you enjoyed reading this article and I hope you’ll find as much comfort and joy in reading this as I did in making this.
