As we continue our journey of Living Well, it is essential to have balance. This recipe is a keeper; it will minimize the amount of time you need to spend in the kitchen, and fuel you for the activities in your life that bring you joy. The fun part of this recipe is that it is completely adaptable and once again, very fun for children to make. It is also a great introduction to ratios!
I have a great deal of respect for Jamie Oliver and during my teaching career, I taught a Cultural Cooking Club for fifteen years as an extra-curricular activity after school. During Jamie’s Food Revolution Day, the Cooking Club members would be excused for approximately an hour, and we would join school groups from around the world online to prepare a healthy meal with Jamie! Now that is using technology to better the world!!! Planting these small seeds early, I believe, helps to give the children a great start, and they develop healthy attitudes about their bodies, minds, and spirits; thus, a strong foundation.
This recipe is adapted from Jamie Oliver’s Spinach Pancakes which you can see online. Like I said, it is a keeper and so easy. There are four basics and then you can get creative. We have a Superfoods section at Sharyn’s Pantry, so you could add beet powder if you want your wraps to be purplish or a couple of handfuls of assorted greens will give you beautiful green wraps. We used greens from the produce drawer and they were absolutely delicious. This would be a really fun recipe to prepare with children of all ages. It reminds me of when we made playdough with our Grandma S. and she would let my brother and I add the droplets of food colouring to the doughballs, stir, and create lots of excitement. We were also learning about the Colour Wheel, math, and descriptive language!
Adding sliced carrots, parsnips, and even a touch of turnip, not to mention sweet potatoes, would also be great! The amount of nutrition you can pack into these wraps is astounding! A great way for a stealthy parent to introduce nutrients into an unsuspecting child (wink, wink). At least until they realise how great vegetables taste!

Basic Wrap Recipe
- 1 egg (Local and Organic eggs are available at Sharyn’s Pantry)
- 1 cup of flour (1847 flour at Sharyn’s Pantry is local, organic, and stone ground – just like Italy!)
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 pinch of salt
Put the four basic ingredients in the blender and add your produce. Whiz it up until liquified, grease the pan with olive oil, and then prepare as you would crepes.
We have beautiful crepe pans at Sharyn’s Pantry. The nice part about these purchases is that they are gifts that last a lifetime. Crepes are a part of our Sunday morning tradition in our home. They are quick, easy, and nutritious. It is wonderful to share the kitchen space, relax, and prepare food together.
Everyone has a task because the toppings are key. I love savoury crepes. My wrap, I dubbed, “Kermit coloured” was topped with Smoked Salmon, feta cheese, grated carrots, sliced peppers, sliced purple cabbage, minced onions, drizzled lemon juice, and then a poached egg on top. When you cut through the egg, the yolk infiltrates the wrap and topping, giving you a lovely flavourful binder. I also added Coarse Grey Salt and Sharyn’s Pantry black pepper (no fillers – 100% pure).
When you cut through the wrap, which we left flat, you get hints of all of the flavours. Be ready for the burst of energy this little bundle provides!
All the best,
Roxanne
