Deliciously silly and riotously funny “The Drowsy Chaperone” comes to Aultsville

The Seaway Valley Theatre Company invites you to the major musical production of their 2018-2019 season. The deliciously silly and riotously funny “The Drowsy Chaperone” will be staged in February at Cornwall’s Aultsville Theatre.

A man in a chair appears and puts on his favourite record: the cast album of a fictitious 1928 show which suddenly comes to life in his apartment. With two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a daffy hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, and a tipsy chaperone, you have everything you need for the perfect Broadway musical. Nominated for thirteen 2006 Tony Awards and winner of five, (including Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score) this acclaimed, Canadian-penned show will delight you with its unique “play within a play” concept, its colourful characters, and its infectious, Jazz Age inspired music. Get ready to party like it’s 1928!

Director and SVTC mainstay Lacie Petrynka has assembled cast of twenty-one of Cornwall and area’s finest stage actors for the show. It is produced by Lise Richer and Christiane Taylor. The show’s dance numbers are choreographed by Melanie Samis, Brenda Joy Quesnel, and Lacie Petrynka. Once again Brian McCartney is the musical director, and will conduct an orchestra of eleven of Cornwall’s best musicians.

“The Drowsy Chaperone” will be staged at the Aultsville Theatre, 2 St. Lawrence Drive, on February 15, 16, 22, and 23 at 7:30 pm. A matinée will also be performed on February 17 at 1:30 pm. Tickets are $25.00 for adults, $23.00 for students, and $20.00 for children under 12. (All admission prices include a $1.00 Aultsville capital refurbishment fee.) Oce hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

They will also be available at the door from one hour before each performance. All seats are assigned and the theatre iswheelchair accessible.
