As everyone knows, The Cornwall Seeker strongly supports our Art Community whether it is Visual Art, Performing Art or Literary Art. (As we do with our Annual Seeker Awards Gala – which we hope to be able to have again very soon!) We were the first to donate $2,500 to our new Art Centre (something that we are very proud of) and recently with Yafa arts and crafts, we published a book “Letters from my window” which is illustrated by 5 local artists, Jane Macmillan, Linda Geisel, Yafa Goawily, Mandy Prevost and Tracy Lynn Davies. The book is a short story about a little girl called Sunshine and what she experienced through the pandemic. It is a book made to spread community love and the monies ($10) a book will go directly to the 5 artists as we all know that artists have had a tough time during the past year and a half due to Covid. Books can be purchased from each of the artists and are also available at both Seeker offices. (327 Second Street East and at 319 Fourth Street West).
On the subject of supporting artists, on Saturday, July 31st, the Cornwall Art Walk ART-A-THON will be taking place from 8am to 8pm in downtown Cornwall.
This is an event hosted by 125 Pitt Street Studios.
Collaboratively, the artists will be creating art for 12 hours straight on Saturday July 31st from 8am to 8pm.
This is a Fundraiser and the monies raised will go towards paying the musicians and performers at the 2021 Cornwall Art Walk event which will be taking place downtown Cornwall on Pitt Street on Friday, August 27th from 4pm to 8pm. This is the day that Cornwall’s Downtown becomes Cornwall’s very own “Art District”!
There are many different ways you can enjoy and support the Art-A-Thon
1 – be a participant by dedicating 1 hour on July 31st to your art.
2 – sponsor a participating artist/musician/performer
3 – visit the artists from 8am to 8pm on Saturday July 31st in the downtown and make a donation.
All art forms are welcome. From painting, to sketching, to music, to dance, to performances and writing. To register email: [email protected] or message 125 Pitt Street Studios on Facebook. Then collect a minimum of $25 in pledges (of course you are welcome to exceed this amount), show up at your the designated area and time with your pledge sheet and monies raised along with your personal art supplies and begin creating.
We all know artists, musicians and performers have been hit hard during the pandemic and the Cornwall Art Walk ART-A-THON (happening on Saturday, July 31st) and Art Walk (happening on Friday, August 27th) with your help will support local. Supporting local also means supporting your local artists, musicians and performers.
There are also many other art related events happening both online and in person so please check out the Events Calendar on the Seeker website at www.theseeker.ca and if you have an event happening be sure to post it in the events calendar at: https://theseeker.ca/calendar-4/
Any events posted before the 22nd of each month will be included in the following months print version of the Cornwall Seeker but if you don’t post your event in the calendar, which is completely FREE, the Seeker team won’t know about it and therefore we won’t be able help you advertise your event!
