By Bob Peters, choosecornwall.ca – Cornwall’s culinary scene is a little more international with the opening of Sugoi Ramen & Sushi Bar.

“I spent some time in Vancouver and fell in love with smell and taste of ramen,” says Mr. Killham. “When space became available on Pitt Street I knew I had the location for my next restaurant.”

Mr. Killham is well known to local diners as the owner and chef of Birchwood, a nearby restaurant on Sydney Street. The new restaurant is bright and cozy and is meant to serve the downtown lunch crowd. It offers food for take-out or dine-in with seating for 20. And in case you are wondering, “sugoi” is a popular Japanese word that is similar to the English expression of “Oh wow!”

Sugoi focuses on two main dishes – ramen and sushi.

Ramen is a Japanese adaptation of a Chinese pulled-noodle dish. It consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a meat-based broth, often flavored with soy sauce or miso, and uses toppings such as nori (dried seaweed), soy marinated egg, pickled vegetables, and scallions. Sugoi offers four different broth bases which can be topped with either Pork Chashu or Teriyaki Chicken.

Sushi is a Japanese dish of vinegared rice flavoured with salt and sugar accompanied by a variety of ingredients such as seafood, and vegetables, and wrapped with nori. Styles of sushi and its presentation vary widely, with Sugoi’s offerings including modern Canadian takes such as Yam and Maple, and Beet and Ginger Cured Salmon.

In addition to ramen and sushi, Sugoi Cornwall offers a chicken teriyaki rice bowl, tuna poke rice bowl and cucumber and edamame salad.

“We have been blown away by the reception so far, and invite local residents and visitors to drop by and experience what we have to offer.”

Sugoi Ramen & Sushi Bar is located at 150C Pitt Street and is open 5 days a week from Monday to Friday, 11am to 5pm.  You can reach them at (613) 330-0117 or online at:
