So I tested positive for Covid – Day 0 of isolation.

I’ve hunkered down for 2 and a half years. I kept the kids at home, avoided gatherings, wore my mask everywhere. I was careful. So. Very. Careful.

I have a child at higher risk, and I am Iron Deficient, a condition that in studies, has been linked to more severe outcomes, so I really, really didn’t want this crap in my household. But like everybody else, we let our guards down, we took more risks, husband stopped masking at work, so here we are.

I was googling “Covid Progression” and found very little so I decided to document what Covid looked like in our family. I know it’s different for everybody, but it may give others an idea of what to expect. We have a household of 6 so It will be interesting to see how or if we get stuck in a loop passing it to each other over and over as we all got sick at different time.

My husband John, tested positive Saturday. I and three kids tested positive today. Mateo tests negative.

Day 0

I am making today day 0 for me. Theoretically, I could start from Saturday as I got a mild sore throat then and you are supposed to start Day 0 at the onset of symptoms or when you test positive. However, because allergies were high on Saturday and Sunday, I’m not taking chances and starting the counter today.

Symptoms

To avoid infection, the husband has been living in the trailer since Saturday. The reason I tested today is because I woke up with the same sore throat but also had a bit of congestion. I also had a bit of an upset stomach. Sure enough, it was positive.

I proceeded to testing the rest of us.

Joshua and Trinity were very faint, but the line was there. They appeared after the full 15 minutes. Ezekiel, my youngest who is more at risk, was the darkest line I’ve ever seen on a covid test, and his result was immediate. I barely put the drops in and there it was. Everybody had a sore throat, that was it.

I was feeling fine and went about my day. I did the Monday Morning Motivation show, was chipper. All was good, but then I coughed. OMG it was as if broken glass was in my throat trying to get out. Okay, not gonna do that again. Now I hold my coughs in as if my life depended on it.

Shortly after the show, Ezekiel developed a fever of 102.5. He was feeling rough. I put him on the couch in the living room to keep a constant eye on him.

3pm. Body aches and chills. Tolerable. Despite it all, I kept going cause my kids need me. Feed them soup. Make sure they stay hydrated and if need be, medicated, keep taking their temp.

Thank God for good friends bringing me food so I can rest. Lisa Gray made a salad packed with antioxidants and vitamins, and delicious scones.

Night time arrived. I forced myself to take a breather and relax. Ezekiel was still on and off with the fever, but the rest of us are doing okay. It will be interesting to see how tomorrow pans out.
