Outside of yoga, Coach Krystine is a reporter, a proud mother of two boys, has a fiancé, and two cats. When she’s not practicing journalism or teaching yoga classes, Krystine enjoys reading, crocheting, and attending music concerts. She also cherishes spending quality time with her loved ones, going on little adventures together.
Krystine, who grew up in Cornwall, pursued her education in Communications at Ottawa University, specializing in Media Communications with a Minor in Psychology. She lived in Ottawa for eight years. Five years ago, Krystine decided to return to her hometown, driven by the desire to raise her children in a close-knit community that she cherished. Now, she is excited to contribute to her hometown’s wellness scene by sharing her expertise and passion for yoga with the community.
Five Questions with Coach Krystine Therriault
1 – What initially drew you to yoga, and how did you become a yoga instructor?
“I did some HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) inspired yoga and enjoyed it. Then I started to practice with YouTube yoga videos to help quit smoking cigarettes and got hooked on how the exercises made me feel.”
2 – How would you describe your teaching style or approach to yoga?
“I like to include a combination of mindfulness, strength, and flexibility in my yoga classes.”
3 – What are the main benefits of practicing yoga, both physically and mentally?
“Yoga is a great form of self-care. It can help improve your physical strength and flexibility. It can also help reduce stress and anxiety, increasing self-love and confidence.”
4 – What types of yoga do you specialize in, and why did you choose those particular styles?
“Vinyasa yoga is the main style of yoga that I am trained in. It is an active, dynamic practice that pairs your breath with your movement and connects the mind with the body.”
5 – How do you tailor your yoga classes to accommodate different skill levels and individual needs?
“I tailor my yoga classes to accommodate different skill levels by offering modifications from simple to more challenging as needed. Individuals with specific injuries/concerns are welcome to speak to me before class or message me on Facebook, and I will accommodate them as much as possible. I also believe your yoga practice is yours! If something I say isn’t right for your body, you can stop and take Balasana (child’s pose), have some water, and/or ask for help if you need it.”
