What a great opportunity I had this past Wednesday attending the final practice of the “Matilda JR. The Musical” where my hubby Sheldon Grant was the Sound Guy and then seeing the actual 2 shows staged the following day on Thursday, presented to over 800 students and parents at the Agora Centre.

To see the cast of 33 young people from Dream Maker Productions acting was amazing and seeing how many hours must have been spent memorizing their lines was even more impressive. I definitely wouldn’t have been able to remember all that myself or even be up on the stage in front of so many people.

It was also nice to see how parents and grandparents of these young people also came together to help with set making, show promotion, sewing and putting the costumes together David Runions did a wonderful job guiding these young individuals in such a stellar production.

In a nutshell here is a summary of the musical: Matilda (played by Hailey Smith) is an extraordinary girl with a sharp mind and a vivid imagination who dreams of a better life and  takes charge of her own destiny.

Matilda is loved by her friends but is sadly unloved by her mean parents (played by Durham Lemire and Addysin Ladouceur). At school she impresses her teacher, Miss Honey (played by Taylor Smith) but is not liked along with other children by the mean headmistress , Miss Trunchbull (played by Annie Dale). School life is made difficult by the mean headmistress who calls the children names and punishes them at every opportunity that she can when they don’t abide by her silly rules. The children come together and revolt when they decide to teach the grown-ups a lesson to create a happy ending for this show.
