St. Lawrence College Celebrates Graduates at Cornwall Convocation

Cornwall, ON– St. Lawrence College’s Cornwall campus will celebrate the graduating class of 2017 in three Convocation ceremonies on Friday, June 2. The ceremonies will be held at the Aultsville Theatre, 2 St. Lawrence Drive, at 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.

This year’s convocation will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of St. Lawrence College and the Ontario college system, and will feature the Golden Grads. Members of the first graduating class of 1969 will be celebrating with the class of 2017 and will be dressed in golden convocations gowns as a symbol of this milestone.
During the afternoon ceremony, SLC will confer Honorary Diplomas on Jeanette Despatie and Peter Garrow for their contribution to our community.

Ms. Despatie has taken an active leadership role as the President and CEO of Cornwall Community Hospital and Brockville General Hospital, and has overseen several community programs, hospital upgrades, and workplace culture improvements.

Mr. Garrow has been a champion of First Nations causes and a key negotiator between the federal government and Akwesasne. He has been recognized for educational achievements in his community and has benefited SLC with his new additions to our curriculum.

The 10 a.m. ceremony will include students graduating from programs in the School of Baccalaureate Nursing and Health Sciences. The 1:30 pm ceremony will graduate students from the School of Applied Science and Computing, Business, Iohahi:io Akwesasne, Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship, Online and Continuing Education, and the Centre for Corporate Learning and Performance Improvement. The 4:30 p.m. ceremony will graduate students from the School of Community Services and Justice Studies and Applied Arts.

“Convocation is a day we all look forward to,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College.  “When we see our students walk across the stage and become graduates of St. Lawrence College, we all feel immense pride and share in their hopes for the future.”
