South Stormont, ON – While the annual Township of South Stormont Volunteer Appreciation Gala has been postponed due to the pandemic, the Volunteer Appreciation Committee moved forward in recognizing the volunteer efforts of an exception young person in our community.
Alexa Zummach was presented with the inaugural Youth Volunteer of the Year Award for 2019 on Monday, December 14, prior to a Special Council Meeting.
Alexa’s volunteer efforts are well recognized with the local 4H Club and the Stormont County Fair Board. She also continues to volunteer for community events such as the Ingleside Firefighters Challenge/Block Party, Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life, Stephanie Grady Memorial Run, and the Avonmore Ladies Night.
“We’re so fortunate to have some incredible young people in our community,” says Mayor Bryan McGillis. “The Youth Volunteer of the Year Award is an opportunity to recognize their efforts to improve our community, and Ms. Zummach was the perfect selection as the award’s first recipient.”
Alexa plans to attend Loyalist College in 2021 and hopes to one day enjoy a career in border services or criminal investigation. On behalf of South Stormont Council, Staff, and members of the community, we wish the best for Alexa in her studies.
