A person’s hair is their crowning glory. So, it’s only right to treat it with the best care possible. A good hair care routine allows your hair to look radiant, smooth, and healthy-looking. And regardless of hair type, color, or style, a good routine always begins with proper washing.

Hair washing is an inevitable part of every human’s life. Not only does it cleanse your hair from dirt caused by environmental factors, but it also brings a good mood and relaxes your mind. It also makes you feel rejuvenated. But are you washing it the right way?

There are several factors to consider for proper hair washing. Some of these factors are the type of shampoo you use or how often you wash it. So, how would you know if you’re doing it right? Here are some dos and don’ts to follow if you want to wash your hair the right way:

The Do’s

  • Do Use Cotton To Dry Your Hair

After washing, it is best to dry your hair using a soft and cotton towel. A t-shirt is highly recommended. Wet hair is sensitive and highly prone to damage. So, using a towel made with stiff fibers may only damage the hair shaft, causing it to be dry and brittle. It may also lead to hair breakage, or worse, split ends.

  • Do Stick To One Or Two Brands Of Shampoo

With many options and different brands to choose from, selecting shampoo may not be as easy as you think. You have to determine what’s suits and complements your hair better. Here are tips to consider:

  • For dry hair, sulfate and paraben-free shampoo will work well.
  • For rough and coarse hair, a shampoo with moisturizer is highly recommended.
  • For thin hair, a shampoo that has volumizing properties is good.
  • For curly hair, a shampoo with moisturizer but without silicone is better.

If you want to help the environment, you may opt for sustainable shampoo. These are a good choice since more and more people are now choosing eco-friendly products over their traditionally-made counterparts.

  • Do Lather Your Shampoo Before Applying It

According to experts, if you’re not lathering up your shampoo, you’re not cleaning your hair. The lather is the one that cleans your hair and removes dirt away from it. You also allow the cleansing agents present in your shampoo to do their job properly.

You may do this by putting an ample amount of shampoo to your hand, adding a good amount of water, and scrubbing your hand until there are bubbles.

For those looking to enhance their hair care routine with professional products, you can shop for Joico shampoo, known for its innovative formulas that support hair health and vitality.

  • Do Apply Nourishing And Smoothening Serums

Apply a good amount of serum while your hair is still damp or slightly wet, especially if it becomes frizzy. The hair serum will smoothen and soften the frizz and give your shiny hair a coating to make it more vibrant and healthy-looking.

The Don’ts

  • Don’t Use A Blower To Dry Your Hair

It is not advisable to apply heat to your hair consistently. There may be times that you must do this but not always. When you apply heat to dry your hair, you’re also removing some of its moisture, causing it to be dry and brittle. As mentioned above, wet hair is susceptible to damage. So, remove that hair blower and use a t-shirt in drying. It may be a slow process, but it’s safe for your hair.

  • Don’t Use Shampoo Everyday

If you shampoo your hair every day, some of the natural oils present in your hair might be stripped off. So, how does it happen? Your hair produces a natural oil called sebum. When you apply shampoo, it creates emulsion with the oil, trapping it together with the dirt. When you wash it, the oils are rinsed together with soap and dirt.

According to experts, natural oils are good for your hair. They provide protection and additional moisture for the scalp and hair. It also leaves your hair shiny and healthy.

  • Don’t Comb Or Pull Out Your Hair

Again, wet hair is highly vulnerable to damages. Combing and pulling out your hair may result in hair breakage and hair damage. Instead, wait for your hair to dry completely, or you may run your fingers through your hair as well.

  • Don’t Tie Up Your Hair

Tying up damp hair may cause damage and split ends. Furthermore, it will be difficult for your hair to dry completely, causing dandruff, itchy scalp, lice, and other unwanted hair conditions.

Final Words

Hair can be one of the dirtiest parts of the body, as it is usually exposed to pollution, dust, and sweat. It provides a suitable environment for bacteria and other microorganisms to grow and populate. That’s why hair washing is necessary. And it will be more beneficial if you do it correctly. So, follow these tips, and give your crowning glory the best treatment it deserves.
