If you’re considering downsizing, you may have heard a few tips and tricks for making the process go smoothly. One excellent piece of advice that has a wide range of benefits is to utilize photos in the downsizing process.

If you’re downsizing your Toronto home, home organizers in Toronto can offer suggestions for eliminating clutter and organizing your belongings so you’ll be able to move with less and to free up space in your new, smaller home. A great place to start your downsizing process is with photos. Here are just some of the ways photos can make downsizing easier.

Decluttering Physical Photos

If you’re someone from before the digital photo era, you likely have drawers or boxes full of physical prints. And chances are you don’t take them out and look at them very often. It’s too much hassle.

Taking the time to organize and digitize your photos frees up physical space in your home and makes it much easier to go back and look at your photos whenever you want. All it takes is a few clicks or swipes to find the images you’re looking for.

Taking Photos of Your Home Before You Start Decluttering and Downsizing

If the idea of leaving your current home or getting rid of some of the belongings you’ve collected over a lifetime is difficult for you, taking photos can help. Before you start decluttering or packing, take photos of the outside and inside of your home.

You can take photos of each room and special architectural aspects of your home that you love. You can create a digital album that you can go back and look at anytime you’re feeling nostalgic, and since they’re digital photos, they won’t take up extra space once you move to your new home.

Taking Photos of Items You Decide to Get Rid Of

Depending on the size of the home you have now and the size of the one you plan to move into, you might have more or less space to work with. Either way, you will likely have to get rid of some of your belongings, which can be an emotional process. Something to make it easier is to take photos of the things you decide to part with, so you’ll always be able to look back and remember them.

It can be especially difficult to part with items from an extensive collection. You might not have the space to keep your collection intact or want to get rid of your collection now so your loved ones won’t have to later. Whatever your reasons, it can be a hard process letting go of a collection that you’ve spent years building and cultivating. Whether it’s baseball cards, hummels, or souvenirs from a lifetime of travels, snapping photos of your beloved collections can make letting go of pieces of them or the entire thing a more manageable and smoother process.

Downsizing can bring up a lot of feelings, both good and bad. Using photos to remember the things you’re letting go of can make it easier to be open and accepting of all the new adventures in front of you.
