I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying it’s the thought that counts before, right? And as we all know, this can be frustrating when you really want to give someone something special for their birthday or another event. The truth of the matter is that most people don’t really care about your gift, they care about your thoughtfulness and the fact that you took the time to get them something they wanted. Nonetheless, one thing is for sure the best gift you can give someone is an experience. Here is why.

Why giving an experience is the best gift you can give

Giving someone an experience as a gift can be the best thing you do, as an experience requires you to be more thoughtful and detail oriented. This shows your affection and how much you care about someone. Experience gifts are thus some of the best gifts for any occasion.

Experiences are more personal than gifts

Think about the last time you received a materialistic gift. How long did it take for the joy of that new item to wear off? Now, think about a time when you were given an experience. Chances are, that memory still brings a smile to your face. Experiences are more personal than gifts because they are unique to each individual and cannot be replicated.

Everyone wants memories

Memories are some of the most precious things we have, and by giving an experience, we’re giving someone the chance to make a memory that will last a lifetime. An experience is something that your loved one will remember forever. It’s a one-of-a-kind gift that they can’t get anywhere else.

An experience lasts longer than a material object

When you give someone an experience as a gift, you are giving them something that will last much longer than a material object. Not only will they have the memories of the experience itself, but they will also associate those memories with you – the giver of the gift. And what could be better than giving someone a happy memory that will last a lifetime?

Research has shown that experiences make us happier

One study found that people who were given experiential gifts felt more satisfied than those who received material goods. Why? Experiences are unique and can’t be replicated by simply purchasing something new-you’ll never forget them.

Gifts encourage social connections

Giving an experience as a gift can help you connect on a deeper social level with the people around you. Moreover, it can help enhance your social awareness as when you think of what to give someone you will be more observant. This observation skill is a good trait in the long run.

Trying something new challenges us and broadens our horizons

When we step outside of our comfort zones and try something new, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities. Trying new things challenges us and broadens our horizons, giving us a fresh perspective on life. Thus, giving someone an experience might be exactly what they need in that moment to step out of their comfort zone.

When we share stories, we create connections with others

We all have our own unique experiences that shape who we are. When we share these experiences with others, we create a connection that goes beyond just the superficial. This helps us empathise with one another.
