The Counties, Ontario – The United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, along with the SDG Library Board, have announced the appointment of Rebecca Luck as the new Director of Library Services. Luck’s selection comes after an extensive recruitment process, and she is poised to lead the staff at the SDG Library, focusing on fostering synergies and exploring new avenues with partners, staff, and clients.

Margaret MacDonald, chair of the SDG Library Board, commended Luck’s dedication to prioritizing library staff and patrons, indicating that her emphasis on engagement aligns well with her plans to shine a spotlight on the library’s services as she assumes her new role.

“Our board warmly welcomes Rebecca to our library team,” said MacDonald. “Her energy, positivity, and commitment to providing exceptional library services will greatly benefit our outstanding library staff and patrons.”

Luck, a resident of Glengarry, expressed her enthusiasm for the challenges that lie ahead in her new position with the SDG Library.

“I am thrilled to join the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry and become a part of the Library Services team,” she stated.

Having graduated from McGill University in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Luck later obtained a Bachelor’s of Education from Lakehead University. Prior to assuming her new role, she resided and worked in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and taught in the United Kingdom before returning to her hometown of Glengarry.

Rebecca Luck will officially commence her duties as the new Director of Library Services on June 26. She will be succeeding Karen Franklin, the current Director of Library Services, who is set to retire this summer after serving the SDG Library for 15 years, including 11 years as director.

Luck’s diverse background in engineering, teaching, and international experience will undoubtedly contribute to the library’s continued growth and success. As she takes the helm, patrons can anticipate an increased focus on engagement, innovative partnerships, and an enhanced library experience for all.
