TORONTO, April 26, 2024 — This year, experience the beauty and history of Ontario firsthand with the annual Doors Open Ontario event. Kicking off on April 27 in Guelph, the program invites the public to explore nearly 30 communities across the province, from spring through fall, at no charge.

Unlocking Heritage Sites

Doors Open Ontario, organized by the Ontario Heritage Trust, offers a unique opportunity to access a wide array of sites that are typically not open to the public. From historically significant buildings and places of worship to stunning natural landscapes and modern infrastructure marvels, there’s something to captivate everyone. Sites often include additional offerings such as walking tours, exhibitions, and other special activities, enhancing the visitor experience.

A Celebration of Local Culture

According to Michael Ford, Ontario’s Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, “Doors Open Ontario continues to showcase Ontario’s strong and vibrant heritage sector.” He encourages all residents to participate and explore the sites that have played a crucial role in shaping the province’s history.

John Ecker, Chair of the Ontario Heritage Trust Board of Directors, highlighted the program’s ability to offer firsthand experiences of the diverse and rich heritage of Ontario communities, all at no cost.

  • Hamilton Region — May 4-5
  • Richmond Hill — May 11
  • Toronto — May 25-26

June:

  • Ottawa — June 1-2
  • Whitchurch-Stouffville — June 1
  • Markham — June 8
  • Loyalist Township — June 15

July:

Kingston and Area — July 20

August:

  • Burlington — August 10
  • Cornwall and SDG Counties — August 17-18
  • Owen Sound — August 24

September:

  • Belleville — September 7
  • Carleton Place — September 14
  • Peterborough — September 14
  • Kawartha Lakes — September 15
  • Waterloo Region — September 21
  • London — September 21-22
  • Mississippi Mills — September 22
  • Brockton — September 28
  • Lambton County — September 28-29
  • Halton Hills — September 29

October:

  • Timmins — October 5
  • Niagara-on-the-Lake — October 19
  • NEW — Niagara Falls — October 26-27

Dates are still to be confirmed for Brampton, Simcoe County, and Vaughan.
