The first Run For Cornwall, hosted by The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Cornwall in partnership with Mercy 4 Mankind, took place on Saturday, May 25th at Lamoureux Park. The run raised funds for the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation and brought citizens together for a common purpose – to spread love and give back.
“This is an event put on by the community, for the community, for our hospital,” shared Amy Gillespie on behalf of CCHF, “I think it’s so important to encourage individuals and youth in our community to get involved and to do the work that they can achieve locally.” During the opening ceremony, Amy also thanked the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Cornwall for donating proceeds from Run For Cornwall 2024 to CCHA.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association members played a big part in the success of the event. Youth of all ages volunteered behind the scenes and during the event running water stations, speaking during the opening ceremony, and guiding 64 registered runners during 1k, 3k, and 5k races.

“As a Muslim community, we want to share whatever goodness we have, whatever wealth we have, with society. This is part of our faith,” explained Ishaque Fonesca (pictured below far right), Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Cornwall, “Even aside from the funds that we’re collecting, we hope that this brings the community together and breaks down some barriers that are there.”
Salman Rehan, Director of Charity Runs for Mercy 4 Mankind, (pictured above second from the left) was happy to be present for Cornwall’s first run. “We are very excited to host this run and honored to have councillor Fred [Ngoundjo] as our honorary chair. Fred is pictured second from the right. We thank all the runners who have taken part,” said Rehan.
