If you have an old recreational vehicle, you are probably wondering what to do with it. They are rather large and difficult to dispose of. A trash truck cannot collect them as they are rather unsuitable and quite big, leaving you with more questions on how to dispose of them. It has been with you for many years, helping you go camping, hiking, and recreating, but now it’s time has come to an end. But don’t worry, there are many ways you can solve this issue, whether that is through selling, repurposing, or others. Let’s check out some of the best options for your old RV.

Scrap it yourself

If you’re handy around the house, try to scrap your RV and sell its parts, such as the appliances and cabinets. You can also sell the metal siding and other parts at scrapyards, or bring them to a recycling center if there is one in your town. Breaking down an old RV can be rather lengthy and hard work, but it is always better to do that than just throw it away, as you can profit from its parts.

Sell it

No matter if you want to buy a new recreational vehicle or just want to get rid of the old one, selling it may be the greatest idea. Nowadays, you can sell junk motorhomes for cash to junk-on-wheel buyers who will help you solve this problem once and for all. You just provide them with all the necessary details about the vehicle, and they will offer you some great cash, come to pick up the RV, and you get paid the moment they arrive. Sounds great, right? It is definitely much easier than trying to sell it through advertising and other traditional ways, but you can do that as well if you find it more convenient. Be prepared to negotiate and use online selling platforms to advertise your RV and find potential customers.

You can also try RV consignment, where you entrust a dealer with the sale of the vehicle, and they get a certain amount of commission. Of course, be sure to come up with a contract that will be satisfactory for both of you to avoid any misunderstandings.

Repurpose it

You can try out many creative ways to repurpose your old RV and give it a new lease on life. For example, it can serve as a guest house, where you should add some furniture and drapes, and make the place seem like home for anyone who comes to visit you and wants to spend more time there. Also, you can make it a great home office or studio, and you’ll just need a reliable internet connection and furniture to make it a fully functional space. This will be your peaceful haven where you can do your job easily and engage in your hobbies without someone in your home interrupting and bothering you.

Moreover, you can turn your old recreational vehicle into a mobile workstation, like a food truck or a shop where you can sell everything that seems convenient and profitable. Just make sure you meet all regulations and local laws, and you are free to go to some well-visited fairs, marketplaces, and festivals to sell your products and profit greatly thanks to your repurposed old RV.

Recycle it

Before you go to a recycling center, you should disassemble your old RV and remove any parts that you can still use. Metal, glass, and even some plastics can all be recycled, and you will be both eco-friendly and earn some money. First of all, find the right recycling center, as some may not accept big RVs. Dismantling your old vehicle can also be an arduous task, so you will probably need some expert help with this to do it safely and properly. Also, take off appliances, windows, and furniture pieces if they are still functional and sell them separately rather than recycling them. This can help you earn more money from disposing of your old RV.

Donate it

Donating your old recreational vehicle to a charity is a lovely act of kindness that shows you care for the community and those in need. Charities usually take these vehicles and repurpose them into short-term accommodation sites for homeless or poor families, so you will be a part of this noble quest if you donate your old vehicle. Of course, first, check whether the charity organization is reputable and trustworthy, and then work with them. Ask for the receipt and feel good about yourself, as you are now a part of the community that cares for others.

Take it to a landfill

Once you are left with no other option, you should dispose of your old RV by taking it to a landfill. It can be a health threat if you leave it somewhere close to people or animals and it starts leaking certain dangerous and toxic substances like asbestos or lead. Also, it will occupy a large amount of space and you won’t have room for some other more functional things, so you should get rid of this vehicle if it is beyond repair. Even when you take it to a landfill, experts can sort recyclables, so it won’t be a huge threat to the environment. Make sure to consult local authorities before you dispose of your old RV in a landfill as you don’t want to have any legal problems.

Environmental concerns

If you decide to recycle your old RV, follow all local requirements on how to handle and dispose of hazardous waste. Also, when repurposing, you should use sustainable building materials, energy-efficient appliances, and other eco-friendly options that will make your renovation and repurposing project a successful and environmentally friendly choice. Finally, do your best to recycle and repurpose as many parts as you can, since the less ends up in a landfill, the better.

Getting rid of your old recreational vehicle can be complicated, but with the tips we have provided here, this task can be much easier and faster. The most important thing is to be mindful of the environment and practice safety when trying to find a new purpose for your old RV.
