Mario Leclerc Announced as NDP Candidate for SD&G in 2025 Federal Election

CORNWALL, ON – The Stormont–Dundas– Glengarry NDP is proud to announce that Mario Leclerc will be the party’s candidate in the upcoming federal election. A dedicated advocate for workers’ rights and a strong voice for the community, Leclerc brings extensive experience in public service, labour activism, and political engagement to the race.

Leclerc currently works as a paralegal at the Administrative Housing Tribunal and has been a tireless champion for workers and families in SD&G. From 2008 to 2012, he worked at the Cornwall Service Canada office and served as president of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) Local 621, where he fought to protect workers’ rights. Fluently bilingual, he has also been actively involved in labour and public policy, serving on the executive of the Cornwall and District Labour Council, the TV Ontario/TFO Advisory Board (1996-1999), and the Ontario Criminal Injury Compensation Board (1997-1999).

A proud Franco-Ontarian, hardworking family man, and community leader, Leclerc is stepping forward once again to fight for job security, fair employment insurance benefits, and the protection of public services. Having previously run as the NDP candidate in SD&G, he remains committed to strengthening unions, ensuring a stable job market, and advocating for better support for seniors through Old Age Security reforms.

“I am applying for the MP job in the House of Commons—nothing less,” said Leclerc. “This election is about standing up for everyday people. The Liberals promise to balance the budget, but at what cost? The Conservatives’ agenda will not serve working-class Canadians either. Under both parties, essential programs and services would face drastic cuts. We cannot let that happen.”

Leclerc also emphasized the NDP’s deep roots in SD&G at all levels of government and reinforced the party’s commitment to protecting workers and families.

He pointed to the party’s strong stance against unfair economic policies, including those impacting Canada’s trade, and criticized the cuts that both Liberals and Conservatives would make in pursuit of budget targets.

“More than ever, we need job security, stability, and strong unions,” Leclerc added. “Every vote counts.”

The SD&G NDP invites residents to join the movement, volunteer, and support the campaign. For more information, visit sdsgndp.ca or write to [email protected]

A launch party will be held in the MacEwen Room at the Benson Centre 800 Seventh St W, Cornwall, ON K6J 0A3 on Thursday March 20 at 7 pm. All are welcome to attend.
