Road Trip in Dubai: What to Do When Things Go Wrong

It can happen to anyone. We always plan the perfect trip to Dubai by car. But at some point, something can go wrong. Sometimes, it’s a minor issue, such as bad weather when visiting a particular attraction today. Other times, your vehicle may break down. Then you must find a car service center to solve the problem and continue your trip quickly. But you can prepare for almost any emergency on the road. It will not protect you from potential problems. But it will allow you to deal with them faster and more easily.

Think about all the problems in advance

It is worth thinking about everything that could happen on the road. It is worth considering not only potential problems, but also important ways to solve them. For example, your car may break down. Therefore, looking for a car repair station near where you plan to go is worth it. You can also look for car repair shops along the way.

Take out insurance

You need insurance for car trips. It will cover the cost of car repair service if something goes wrong during your trip. If you are travelling in a rental car, it is best to take out comprehensive insurance.

It is also a good idea to consider travel insurance. If you are travelling to the UAE or any other country, it can cover much more than just lost luggage. It is important to receive medical assistance. Insurance is also useful in case of loss or theft of belongings.

Before you go on a trip, check the insurance restrictions. For example, does the insurance plan still apply if you cross the border? How far can you go if you want to leave the main road?

Be sure to write down your policy number. You also need to have a contact number for emergencies. Insurance company managers can also find a nearby garage where you can take your car for repairs.

Ask each participant to do their research

Don’t put everything on your shoulders. If you are going on a family trip, a trip with friends, or a trip as a couple, ask everyone to research the chosen destination. Travellers should understand where they are going, what they will encounter, etc. Everyone should get the most out of the trip, so let them look for things they will enjoy.

Take spare car keys

If you have a spare set of car keys (main and alarm keys), take them with you on your trip. Different people should keep the keys. Do not give the spare keys to the driver. Find another trusted person. If you accidentally lock your keys in the car, you can use the spare keys.

Do not rely solely on mobile maps

You may lose signal along the way, so do not rely solely on the internet or GPS. Take a paper map with you. You can also download offline maps in advance.

If something still goes wrong, you can ask locals for directions. Another good option is to contact the police. Many patrols in Dubai monitor traffic. You can ask them for help. They will show you the right way to your destination.

Prepare a first aid kit in advance – for yourself and your car

That’s right — you need a first aid kit for your car too. If you break down on the way, first aid supplies will help you get to the nearest car service. You should take the basic first aid kit with you:

●        plenty of engine oil;

●        antifreeze;

●        distilled water;

●        spare wheel and jack.

It is also worth noting the phone numbers of a 24-hour car repair service in advance, which you can contact if you encounter any problems. If the breakdown is serious and you do not understand how the car works, do not try to fix it yourself. Contact a mechanic and explain the problem. A professional will tell you how to proceed correctly so as not to cause further damage.

It is also worth putting together a first aid kit in advance for your passengers and yourself. It should contain disinfectants and painkillers, as well as antipyretics and bandages. Something for stomach upset and insect repellent would not hurt. You should also always have water with you. If someone feels unwell and unprepared, you should look for the nearest pharmacy or call an ambulance.

Conclusion: Proper preparation is the key to a pleasant trip

To be ready for any emergency, think about how you would solve problems in advance. Make a list of potential problems and how you would solve them. Our guide will help you with the most common difficulties you may encounter when driving in Dubai.
