The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) rollout is complete, and applications are now open for all ages. The CDCP is a federal program that provides eligible Canadians with no cost dental insurance, which covers most common dental work, including cleanings, X-rays, exams, fillings and more. The CDCP was rolled out in stages, beginning with seniors 70 years and older in 2023, with all ages becoming eligible this year.

Individuals may be eligible for the CDCP if they:

  • have a net adjusted family income of less than $90,000 annually
  • have no other access to dental insurance – such as through work or school, private insurance or as a dependant or through a partner
  • are Canadian residents for tax purposes
  • have filed their income tax for the last year in Canada

Dental offices across eastern Ontario are accepting the plan, including the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU). Individuals eligible for CDCP who have a regular dentist are encouraged to contact their dental office to confirm whether they accept the plan.

While most local dentists accept CDCP recipients, the EOHU offers dental services for clients who do not have a regular dentist and receive 100% coverage through the CDCP. Eligible clients can call the EOHU at 613-933-1375 or 1-800-267-7120 to book their appointment. Appointment bookings are open now, with appointments starting early November. The EOHU also offers dental services to individuals who receive assistance from Ontario Works (OW), the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), and through the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP) and Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO).

“Dental care is an important but sometimes inaccessible part of health care, due to the out-of-pocket costs,” says Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health and Chief Executive Officer of the EOHU. “I am proud to share that the EOHU is working to make dental care more accessible for our community by accepting the CDCP at our dental clinics. I encourage everyone who is eligible to apply for the plan.” For more information on the CDCP and how to apply, please visit www.Canada.ca/dental.
