Dear Editor,
About Lamoureux Park
A treasure not to be forgotten or taken for granted. I’m not downtown as often since I retired… But.. But.. But.. I remember going for walks at lunchtime in Lamoureux Park, enjoying the fresh air along the water, witnessing groups of children from city parks competing in fun and friendly battles, families having picnics, seniors enjoying the outdoors, groups of artists doing some plein air painting, and even more important, meeting visitors / tourists totally enjoying the bike path. A couple from out west were specifically here to enjoy the bike path after researching it online, another glad to be so close to downtown from the Marina.
WAKE UP CORNWALL, DON’T LET ANYBODY jeopardize our very own unique treasure along the St Lawrence River right here in Cornwall. Let’s not allow high structures to block the views in the park and let’s not allow this theft, pollution, etc. As the word gets out, will boaters still want to stop at our Marina, will families feel safe enjoying evening of Arts in the Park? Will seniors want to have a moonlight stroll in the park? Will parents feel safe sending their children to the play structures?
My favorite part of the park is the Echo Gardens where birds have found a sanctuary and wild flowers are given a chance to exist, and then the wonderful sounds and beauty of the waterfall an area that has now been compromised and taken over by a tent area and refuge for the homeless and others…
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Come on city councilors! Put your heads together with business entrepreneurs, high school and college students with ideas to find better solutions, before another winter is upon us and another summer season of deterioration…
Surely the investment put in the restructuring of the Civic Complex deserves to be taken seriously?? Not sure if Guidon Park would be a better option, but it has toilets and is far enough from the downtown area?? Where else? is a big question? but one that has to be addressed as soon as possible.
