If there’s one thing Canadians love more than hockey and a good Tim Hortons run, it’s the chance to turn their lives around with a jackpot win. And 2025 was full of them. The beauty of today is that there are all sorts of chances to win life-changing money, including traditional lottery tickets bought at the corner store and digital slots spun at home. We’re talking about millions of dollars that were won simply out of good fortune and in the most ordinary moments.
With more opportunities to win than ever before, countless unsuspecting Ontarians have walked away with huge sums and seen their dreams become reality.
Record Lottery Wins Across the Province
Ontario is home to some of Canada’s most popular lotteries, including the Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49, as well as daily draws like Ontario 49 and Daily Grand.
First $80M Lotto Max Jackpot Ontario Winner
December 30, 2025, marked a historic moment as the $80 million Lotto Max jackpot was won in Ontario for the first time, with the other instance having been claimed in British Columbia. One lucky ticket holder in London, Ontario, turned an ordinary day into an unforgettable one. As of late January, the winner has still not been revealed. Once the individual comes forward, more details about where they purchased their ticket and how they discovered their win are expected.
Co-Workers Split $500K Lotto Max Win
It’s not unusual for friends, family, or even co-workers to pitch in for a lottery ticket, and sometimes teamwork proves successful. In December 2025, Daniel Asti and Terry Istead bought one of two tickets that split a $1 million Maxmillions prize. The two property management co-workers had been playing the lottery together for seven years, and their patience certainly paid off. Asti had casually checked their ticket on the OLG app the morning after the draw and realized that they had won big. He plans to put his portion toward his children’s education, as well as a trip to the Dominican Republic. The pair, in some superstitious way, have the Frankford Variety and Laundromat to thank for their luck.
$75-Million Lotto Max Jackpot
Before the unnamed person won the $80 million jackpot in December 2025, David Hatt, a man from Kingston, Ontario, claimed a $75-million lottery prize. At that point in time, he became the winner of the biggest Lotto Max jackpot in history. Hatt told OLG he bought his ticket on a last-minute whim at a gas station. After nonchalantly checking his ticket the next morning, he initially thought he won $75,000 before realizing his new reality. He and his wife plan to use the winnings to travel within Europe, purchase a family home, and also give back to their community.
$60 Million Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball
A 26-year-old Toronto man, Bocheng Mei, won $60 million in the Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball in July, but initially missed an email notifying him of the win. He also got a call from an OLG representative but wrestled with the idea that it might be a scam call. Once he finally saw the win in his OLG account, he shared the news with loved ones. He plans to further his education and travel, hoping to see the Aurora Borealis.
Online Casino Wins
Beyond traditional lottery tickets, digital platforms and online casinos in Ontario have made it possible to turn clicks and spins into millions too.
MGM Grand Millions Double Jackpot Story
Ever heard the phrase “luck is on your side?” Well for one BetMGM Ontario player, that phrase is an understatement. The slots player was playing the BetMGM Casino-exclusive MGM Grand Millions in April when they won $1.6 million on a $20 spin. Six days later, they won $417k on a $15 spin. In just under a week, they collected nearly $2 million in winnings.
Millions on Betty.ca
Progressive jackpots are among the most popular online casino offerings because they keep growing until someone wins. Every time a player makes a bet on the game, a small portion of it contributes to the jackpot. An Ontario player triggered a $2.16 million Maple Moolah Progressive Jackpot on the site Betty.ca, which became the biggest online casino jackpot in Ontario since the regulated market launched in 2022. The win happened with a tiny $0.50 bet, which proves that with slots, anything can happen. It technically didn’t happen in 2025, but hitting such a jackpot at the very start of 2026 was an unforgettable way to kick off the year.
Human Stories Behind the Numbers
While the figures themselves are unbelievable, what makes these wins important and exciting is the people behind them. Every jackpot comes with a human story, and we’ve seen hints of them through the winners mentioned above. Some want to travel, others want to give back, and many simply want to have the freedom to make choices without financial worries. In some cases, lottery or casino winnings find their way to those who are particularly deserving or in need of a fresh start.
For Adam Moreau, the timing was one-of-a-kind. He had just recently lost the love of his life before hitting a $737,186.50 Lottario jackpot. The father of two admitted that through his grief, he learned a lot about himself. He plans to put his winnings toward investments in his children’s future and toward travel in South America.
Ontario’s Year of Life-Changing Wins
2025 has shown that life-changing wins can happen anywhere in Ontario, but while jackpots are thrilling, winning is never guaranteed, and playing responsibly should always come first. Could we see more ways to win big in the future? If so, new draws and jackpots are sure to keep the province dreaming.
