OTTAWA, ON — Eric Duncan, Member of Parliament for Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry, has been appointed as the Conservative Party of Canada’s Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The appointment by Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre entrusts Duncan with leading the Official Opposition’s efforts to hold the government accountable on international affairs while advancing a principled foreign policy that puts Canada’s interests first.
“Canada’s voice on the world stage should be clear, principled, and strong,” said Duncan. “We must rebuild our relationships with democratic allies, stand firmly against authoritarian regimes, strengthen our national security, and pursue foreign policies that protect Canada’s sovereignty while making life more affordable.”
As Shadow Minister, Duncan will lead Conservative scrutiny of the government’s foreign affairs policies, international diplomacy, sanctions, and Canada’s role within international organizations.
Duncan said Canada’s foreign policy should focus on strengthening alliances with democratic partners, confronting foreign interference, expanding trade with trusted allies, and defending Canada’s interests in the Arctic and Indo-Pacific.
“Canadians deserve a foreign policy that reflects our values while advancing our national interests,” Duncan said. “I look forward to working with colleagues across our Conservative team to ensure Canada earns respect and leadership on the international stage.”
Since being elected federally in 2019, Duncan has served in several parliamentary leadership positions, including Caucus Secretary, Question Period Coordinator, and senior roles within the Conservative leadership team. His appointment reflects his growing experience in Parliament and his commitment to effective, accountable government.
“I am grateful to the residents of Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry for their continued support and confidence,” Duncan added.
