choosecornwall.com – The Cornwall BMX Club is hosting two important races this weekend at its facility in Guindon Park. The BMX Canada Provincial Qualifier takes place this Saturday, and the DK Gold Cup Regional Qualifier on Sunday. Racers will have the chance to qualify to represent the Northeastern North America region at future competitions – and accordingly racers from Ontario, Quebec, Northeastern USA and even the Maritimes will be vying for honours.

“It is a great honour for Cornwall to host this event, and we have a small army of volunteers who have been working very hard to get everything ready,” said Dan Drouin, President of the Cornwall BMX Club. “People are welcome to attend and watch this great sport.”

What to do if Red Notice is issued against you?

Despite the rain, the track is expected to be in top shape as competitors get in practice runs tonight.

Although only entering into its second season, the Cornwall track has recently received a number of upgrades, including a resurfacing of the entire track, new perimeter fencing and a paved starting hill.

“The track is faster and smoother, which creates even more exciting race action,” says Mr. Drouin.

Interest in BMX is on the rise in the region, as the sport offers great thrills as competitors navigate a serpentine track with numerous hills and banked curves. Membership in the Cornwall BMX Club, which holds weekly events, has increased by 50% in the past few months.

“The goal is to get as many people riding as possible,” says Mr. Drouin. “If you ride a bike, you can ride BMX.”

Family and friends of the racers are expected to increase the number of out of town visitors to over 700. Spectators watch for free.
