1. The Study

When renovating your study, you have to think about what you will use the space for; for example, you may need to consider adding a desk, shelving, or storage. If you plan to use your study as a home office, you should factor in the cost of a comfortable chair, an adequate desk, and storage. Additionally, if you plan to use your computer in the study, make sure there is enough light and that the desk is the correct height.

Since these things can be quite expensive, you can save money if you do some of the work yourself. If you need to buy tools, shop around and compare prices before buying anything. You may be able to find good quality second-hand equipment that is still in excellent condition. Also, remember to measure your study space carefully before going shopping so that you don’t end up spending money on items that won’t fit.

Once you have the necessary tools, you can start renovating. If you’re not sure how to do something, there are plenty of online tutorials that can help. However, be careful when working with power tools and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

2. The Kitchen

The kitchen is undoubtedly among the most frequented spaces in any home. Whether it’s a full-house remodel or a partial renovation project, the kitchen will most likely be at the top of your priorities. It’s also among the most costly rooms to renovate. As seen in the image below, people spend can spend anywhere between $3700 and $50,000 on kitchen renovations around the world. Kitchen renovation may include changing the faucets, reglazing the cabinets, repainting the walls, or replacing an entire sink.

The tips below can help you save money during a kitchen renovation:

  • Resurface cabinets instead of replacing them
  • Convert existing items such as an old table into a kitchen island
  • Utilize the existing layout
  • Remodel the countertops DIY

3. The Living Room

How much you spend on renovating the living room will largely depend on its size and the fixtures available. In general, “it is cheaper to renovate a living room with fewer fixtures,” says Insider’s proficient author Laura McCamy. Her sentiments and others from around the web suggest the following tips to save on living room renovations:

  • Identify what you can DIY
  • Hire an affordable renovation service
  • Consider reusing materials
  • Prioritize the most crucial fixtures
  • Take your time and seek inspiration

4. The Bathroom

The bathroom is the other critical area where most of your home renovation funds and efforts are most likely to go. Whether you just want to add functionality or restore the once charming appeal and comfort in your shower room, there are a few things you can do to avoid spending so much on renovation for your bathroom. Some of these may include:

  • Installing a standard toilet
  • Getting a prefab shower/bath
  • Opt to refinish rather than replace some bathroom elements
  • Retain the existing size if you can

5. The Bedroom

Renovating the bedroom may involve repairing, replacing lighting, and conducting a fix job on the closet. Since this room doesn’t usually have major fixtures, bedroom renovations are usually less of a hassle for most homeowners. You can save money by simply knowing what to do for yourself and what to leave to the professionals.

Renovation doesn’t have to make you pull the last hair from your head. It doesn’t have to drain your finances either. Hopefully, the above few tips will help you conduct a home renovation affordably.
