When you drive to your local golf course or par 3 track, what is your “why”? In other words, why do you play the game? We’re going to ask the question a different way.

Do you play to get some exercise and enjoy time with friends or are you planning a professional golf career?

If your name is Tiger Woods, we’ll concede that minimalist golf may not be right for you, but for everyone else, you should give it a try.

Let us lay out our argument.

We don’t think most weekend warriors need to carry 14 clubs to enjoy their day. We doubt there’s that much difference between your 9-iron, 8-iron, and 7-iron. We believe you can actually have more fun by lightening the load on your back. You can have a great day on the course with only 5-7 golf clubs – the definition of minimalist golf.

Don’t worry, converting to minimalist golf is quite easy.

Select your favorite 5-7 clubs – we recommend a driver, 5-wood/hybrid, 6-iron, 9-iron, sand wedge, and putter.

Next, you need a minimalist golf bag.

Good news, we have some ideas for you below. Finally, make a tee time, text some buddies, and head to the course.

4 Reasons Why A Minimalist Golf Bag Is Best For Golfers

We feel our argument above is compelling, but we understand you may still be on the fence. Here are the key reasons you need a minimalist golf bag.

1. It’s Less Expensive

Saving money is always a good thing.

A minimalist golf bag is a fraction of the cost of a full-size bag and you save even more money every time you walk instead of renting a cart. In other words, after less than 10 rounds, it pays for itself.

The only difficult decision you need to make is how to use the money you save. Do you use it on greens fees at the “fancy” course or is time to invest in a new putter? There’s no wrong answer as long as you reinvest your savings in your golf game.

2. It’s Less Weight (Lighter Golf Bag)

Golf courses were designed to be walked.

You get to experience the course when you walk down the fairway instead of riding down a piece of asphalt. Don’t even get us started on “cart paths only.”

Here’s the problem: It can be challenging to walk in the summer heat carrying all of your golf equipment. The back gets tired on the last few holes and this could cause your score to implode. No one likes to finish their round poorly.

This problem will be a thing of the past once you start using a minimalist golf bag. They weigh less than 5 pounds – anyone can walk 18 with this style of bag.

3. Fewer Options, More Freedom

We know what you’re thinking.

This sounds good, but can I really play golf with only 5-7 clubs?

What you see as a potential issue is actually a benefit and can help you play better golf. First, you have fewer options so you don’t get stuck in analysis paralysis trying to figure out the club you want to hit.

Second, you learn to hit more shots. To play well with your minimalist golf bag, you’ll have to learn to hit soft shots. You’ll learn to control the distance of your shots. Instead of hitting a 7-iron, you might have to hit “an easy” 6-iron. Developing this skill will make you a better player.

4. It’s More Enjoyable

Take your golf game less seriously and get more out of your days on the course. Golf should help you relax, not cause frustration. Far too many amateur golfers let their emotions get in the way of their next shot.

A minimalist golf bag is designed for you to have fun and will let your playing partners know you are out there to have a good time.

This attitude will be infectious in your foursome. Walk off the golf course refreshed and enjoy a beverage in the 19th hole. This is how we define the minimalist golfer – loves to have a good time on and off the course!

Top 5 Minimalist Golf Bags

We’ve told you why you should get a minimalist golf bag – here are our favorites!

  1. Loma XL by Sunday Golf

Sunday Golf is known for making cool and fun products.

The LOMA XL is no exception.

This minimalist golf bag has everything you need to enjoy your day on the course.

It is designed to carry up to 8 clubs, weighs only 3.4 pounds, and has a stand to keep your clubs off the ground.

Sunday Golf has also included features you won’t find on other products. A 3-way divider, a frosty pocked for your favorite beverage, and a velour-lined valuables pouch. This minimalist golf bag looks great and is available in 8 different colors (Seafoam, Heather Gray, Toasted Almond, Cobalt Blue, Black Camo, Midnight Green, Matt Black, and Ron Burgundy)

  1. Orlimar Pitch and Putt Bag

The Orlimar Pitch and Putt golf bag puts the minimal in minimalist.

It only weighs 2 pounds and can hold up to 5 clubs. It has a handle but does not come with a shoulder strap. It has one small pocket for your golf essentials (balls, tees, gloves, etc.). This is a great little minimalist golf bag, but probably not a product you’ll use to play 18 holes.

It’s better suited for a practice session or maybe a short par 3 course. You do have plenty of options as it’s available in 17 different colors.

  1. Titleist Carry Bag

If you play golf, you know that Titleist is a brand you can trust. Their Carry Bag can comfortably hold 8-10 clubs and weighs 2.1 pounds. It comes with a double-shoulder strap making it easier to carry and has plenty of storage for your golf equipment.

A great-looking minimalist golf bag that’s available in 5 different colors. This bag doesn’t have a stand, so you lay it on the ground. This can be a problem if the ground is wet from dew or a quick shower.

  1. Tourbon Golf Club Carry Bag

We’d describe the Tourbon Golf carry bag as a minimalist travel bag. It has been designed for that quick weekend trip when you might play golf. It weighs a little less than 3 pounds and can hold up to 5 clubs.

It comes with a protective hood to keep your clubs safe during travel. The storage is limited but does have room for your balls, tees, and golf gloves. The “retro style” is different from other products on our list.

  1. Helix Golf Stand Bag Retractable

Helix may be a golf brand you aren’t familiar with, but you should give their stand bag a look. It’s a combination of a full-size bag, a minimalist bag, and a travel bag. This one product can do it all, but is not the best of any category.

It is heavy for a minimalist bag (9+ pounds) but does allow you to carry between 12-14 golf clubs. It does come with a cover to protect your clubs. The Helix is the most expensive product on our list.

Less Is More – Give Minimalist Golf A Try!

Minimalist golf is a great way to enjoy the game.

It’s perfect for juniors, beginners, and casual players. Make your golf experience more fun with a minimalist golf bag. No stress, just a nice stroll with your buddies. Make your golf game simple, not complicated and you’ll find that you leave the country club with a smile on your face.

Enjoy your day!
