Grant Spills the Gravy – City Limits

It’s our big 16th wedding anniversary. Picked up my wife from work and decided to get a little nostalgic. Back in the day before Marijuana became legal and Lou Lou Lemon created the best pants ever, I was set up on a date with a pretty redheaded girl. We originally met in grade 2. After much soul searching and bad relationships we decided that we were destined to be together forever. We needed a large enough venue. One that would accommodate both the wedding and the reception. We needed a place where people could get drunk both during the wedding and the reception. City Limits fit the bill.

We decided for our anniversary meal, why not go back to the place it all started. We walked in and were immediately greeted by a very pretty hostess who showed us to a booth. We were then introduced to our waitress Roula, another very pretty lady who took our drink orders (Tall glass of milk for me and a beer for my lady) and brought us menus. I explained who I was and asked for a picture but she discreetly declined being rather shy. Not everyone likes their picture taken. We’re given a few minutes to peruse the menus and decide on the rib eye steak for me and the chicken souvlaki for my Shelley.

She leaves us to wait for our food and I take stock of our surroundings. The décor is a burgundy and wood finish setting, giving the entire atmosphere a romantic vibe. There are other couples enjoying each other’s company. A romantic hidden gem at the end of Pitt St.. Roula is constantly checking on us and my wife gets a second beer. I’m here for the moment with her. I begin to blackout everyone else there and keep all my attention on her.

The memories of the past begin to flood and we talk about our big day. How the DJ played Fat Bottom Girls at my request while her family smiled and laughed. How her uncle from Quebec had a few too many and got in a fight in the middle of the dance floor with one of her cousins. How we couldn’t afford rooms for everybody so all our friends slept at our tiny apartment after the big event removing any sense of romance from our big night… How we both would do it again in the blink of an eye.

Our food arrives and one can tell this was made with love. The mushrooms completely covered my steak which was awesome.  The baked potato was excellent and served with sour cream which I haven’t had in forever. My wife got French Fries with hers and their crispy deliciousness is second to none. The chicken sticks were nestled on top of her rice, while her fries and Greek salad were strategically placed on the side. My first bite into the steak was heaven. As an Aethist, this is the closest I’m ever getting to being in the presence of God. Mouth watering, divine tastes of the most tender meat I’ve been privileged to devour. Cooked to absolute perfection.

I ask Roula for our bill and explain that it’s our anniversary and how we were married here. She goes to get our bill and the next thing we know the cook arrives out of nowhere holding 2 pieces of dessert. A strawberry short cake and a large piece of cake from Greek origins soaked in syrup with a slight apple flavor. We were already full to the brim but when in Greece… The candor of the gentleman was simply delightful. I couldn’t say thank you enough for making our day even more special.

100 out of 100 gravy boats for the food and the service. I feel this place doesn’t get enough recognition since the food and service is beyond compare. If you ever feel like you need some special attention . City Limits is the place you want to be. 1000 out of 1000 to my Shelley. Simply for being my Shell. I love you and we’re going back next year!!
