Grant Spills the Gravy – Birchwood

I was contacted a while ago and told I should try this establishment. That’s right folks, I take requests. I planned it perfectly. 1st day of vacations require new experiences. Thankfully it’s date night. Told my wife I was taking her out and she put on her best retro dress, while I wore my best jeans and t shirt. Thankfully Birchwood doesn’t have a dress code. They should though. It doesn’t get any better than this.

As we pulled up, I looked at how pretty my wife looks and decided she could have done way better than me. The feeling of being out of her league subsided when she hooked my arm in hers and we walked in. It’s a tiny spot. Quiet. Ambiance intimate and romantic. Dark wood and black against pearl walls. Sexy. My wife whispers in my ear “This place is gorgeous.” Candles, reservation card with my name on it. More cards on other tables. Place is packed but the booths are fairly private. Paintings on the wall setting the scene and the mood. Sexy is the only word to describe it.

Memoir – May 2025

2 waitresses are working the tables in formal wear. We’re greeted and placed in our booth. All smiles, our waitress brings us menus. I forgot my phone in the car and my wife gives the drink orders. Beer for her and milk for me. This place is for people who are serious about their wine. They’ve even paired which wine goes best with every meal on the menus. Fantastic.

We started with the Brie appetizer. Warm cheese surrounded by Melba toast.  So sweet and creamy, it was delicious. My wife ordered the Braised Beef Short Rib and I the Slow Cooked Lamb. Meat so tender it falls off the bone. The Broccolinni was the first thing I ate and I seriously couldn’t get enough. The caramelized onions coupled with the rosemary jus was paired perfectly with braised beef while the lamb was simply divine. Portions were appropriately sized and my wife took her leftovers home. This place doesn’t disappoint.

I highly recommend the lamb. Good for the soul. As we finished our meal, my wife had a second beer. 11 out of 10 gravy boats to Birchwood. For the two of us, with tip came to $150. Worth every penny. What a way to start a vacation. Big thank you to Birchwood for the entire experience.
