Toronto, ON – Mark MacGillis and Denis Joyal of Cornwall are celebrating after winning a MERRY MILLIONS prize worth $50,000 in the January 9, 2024 draw.

Mark and Denis, friends for over 40 years, have been playing the lottery together for the last 15 years. This is their first big win as a team. Denis suggested they try the new game, MERRY MILLIONS.

Denis and Mark were visiting each other when they decided to check their tickets together using the OLG app. Denis’ phone played a tune and they saw Big Winner appear on the screen. “When I realized it was $50,000, I said to Mark, ‘We won 50 grand!’ and we celebrated with a toast,” said Denis. “Another friend of ours was with us and he joined our lottery pool right away,” laughed Denis.

“This feels good. It was exciting!” said Mark. “It was a nice moment to celebrate. We listened to the winning song on the app about six times that night!” said Denis.

Mark plans to treat himself to some fun in the snow and might plan a ski trip, while Denis is treating himself to some fun in the sun on a beach to celebrate his win.

MERRY MILLIONS was a limited-time OLG lottery game available for $20 from November 21, 2023, to January 9, 2024, featuring three $1 million guaranteed Top Prizes, three $50,000 Early Bird prizes, plus 402 additional prizes between $1,000 and $250,000.

The winning ticket was purchased at Mitchell’s Variety Store on Pitt Street in Cornwall.

OLG supports safe play and wants to keep the fun in the game. That’s why OLG is proud to be a leader in promoting responsible gambling with our globally recognized PlaySmart program.
