Cornwall, ON – The City of Cornwall is inviting the public to join a crucial conversation on its Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan. A public engagement session will be held on Wednesday, September 25, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cornwall Civic Complex, Salon B. This session offers residents the opportunity to share their insights and contribute to the city’s ongoing reconciliation efforts.
The plan is inspired by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action, focusing on addressing the deep impacts of residential schools and advancing healing in the community. Mayor Justin Towndale emphasized the importance of participation, stating, “This effort will help the City of Cornwall recognize the wrongs of the past and begin the healing process.”
Mathieu Fleury, Chief Administrative Officer, echoed this sentiment, noting that the city is committed to integrating the plan into its organizational culture. “We believe in creating a work environment that respects and acknowledges the diverse histories and perspectives of all our employees and the community,” he said.
Residents and stakeholders can also share their feedback online through an upcoming “Have Your Say” engagement survey. The session is a significant step toward fostering inclusivity and understanding in Cornwall, as the city continues its commitment to truth and reconciliation.
