Are you wondering how to train your dragons to be fierce adversaries at Cornwall Waterfest 2025 on August 9th? If so, we have exciting news for you! Cornwall has a newly established club whose mission is to teach dragon boat racing techniques. Members will have the opportunity to practice regularly on the St Lawrence River. This initiative was started by a group of keen paddlers who have participated in Cornwall Waterfest Dragon Boat Races and wish to improve their skills and meet people sharing similar interests.
Club member and captain of the 2024 Filipino Community team “Pinoy Floaters,” Eliasraffy Nunay, sums up his enthusiasm with these simple words: “In the islands, water is our life.” He and two other members of this newly founded club have recently taken steps to obtain Safe Steering Accreditation from Dragon Boat Canada in Montreal to assist with the summer-long practices.
The club, which has been developing since January 2025, is committed to creating an inclusive environment to shape the future of dragon boating in the community, while promoting fitness and teamwork. It is open to beginner or experienced paddlers aged 16 years and up. The practice season runs from June 1st to August 31st. One-hour sessions led by an experienced coach are held on Sundays in the late afternoons or early evenings. Life jackets and paddles are provided to participants. Don’t miss the boat. Take advantage of this opportunity to register as a team, an individual, or a drop-in.
