Celebrate summer in Lamoureux Park with a week of family events
Cornwall Ontario – Summer will swing into high gear next week with a series of free family activities in Lamoureux Park courtesy of the City’s Parks and Recreation Department and Canada 150 Committee.
“We have seven free family events planned, including some new ones,” said Lorne Taillon, Leisure Arts Coordinator. “It’s a great opportunity to get outside and enjoy the community and the nice weather.”
Arts in the Park
The fun kicks off with three free Arts in the Park concerts at the Bandshell, starting with the Moe Lemieux Quartet and Stephen Vallieres on Tuesday, July 11th, rockers Winston Marley on Wednesday, July 12th and The Hallions on Thursday, July 13th. All three shows begin at 7 pm (weather permitting).
Shakespeare in the Park
The concerts will be followed with some live theatre under the stars on Friday, July 14th when Repercussion Theatre presents Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing.’ The production features a wonderful cast of 11 actors and a dynamic design.
The free show begins at 7 pm (weather permitting) and will take place near the Bandshell.
“It’s been a number of years since we’ve had Shakespeare in the Park,” said Mr. Taillon. “This is going to be a great event for families of all ages.”
Children’s Bike Rally
The fun will continue on Saturday, July 15th with a Canada 150 event – a Children’s Bike Rally. The free event runs from 12 pm to 1:30 pm and it is open to participants of all ages. Registration takes place at the Bandshell from 12 pm to 1 pm and participants will be handed instructions to complete the ‘Tour de Lamoureux Park.’
Participants will bike along a designated route and complete the 7 challenge stations that will be set up in Lamoureux Park. Upon completion of each station, participants will receive a playing card for the Poker Run portion of the event. A Bike Valet Service courtesy of the Transition Cornwall + Active Transportation Group will be available for residents to park their bikes while enjoying the activities, games and snacks after the Bike Rally is complete.
The event is made possible thanks to support from the Ontario 150 Celebrate By Bike program.
Outdoor Move in the Park
The popular Outdoor Movie in the Park will make its return on Saturday, July 15th as the City of Cornwall and event sponsor Rachel’s Kids present The Smurfs – The Lost Village on a giant screen at the Bandshell. The show will start at approximately 9 pm (weather permitting). Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a movie under the stars!
“It’s a great family experience and we’ve had huge crowds in past years,” said Mr. Taillon. “We’re looking forward to another great show this year.”
Arts in the Park Matinee show The week of family fun will wrap up on Sunday, July 16th with a special 2 pm (weather permitting) Arts in the Park performance by the Clarpian-duo at the Bandshell.
