After an intense application and interview process, Taylor and Zachary thought that they were coming to meet with the Board of Directors for a final interview and were excited to find out that they were selected to be the 2022 South Dundas Partner Family.
The Rumohr-Boisvert Family is coming from transitional housing and is facing overcrowding and privacy issues in their current home. Any time that we are able to contribute to safe, affordable housing in our region, we continue to be a part of the solution to a pressing problem.
The land, in Winchester Springs, on which this safe, affordable home will be built has been graciously donated by the Municipality of South Dundas. In fact, this is the third South Dundas project in Habitat Cornwall’s history.
Not only is this the organization’s 17th Home Build, but the third project in the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic. Upon completion of this home, 17 local families with 47 children will have safe, affordable homes.
Hank Blasiak, Habitat Cornwall Board of Directors Chair, noted, “(t)his young, vibrant family has strong roots in South Dundas and they are not being handed a home. They will dedicate 500 hours of volunteer time in place of a down payment and will pay a geared to income mortgage with no interest as well. We are thrilled to be working in South Dundas again with the support of the community.”
Habitat Cornwall will break ground on the Winchester Springs project this spring. The St. Lawrence College Construction Technology Program will begin the build process and then hand off the balance of the project to local contractors and volunteers.
