Hey there! Welcome to another edition of Eats & Deets! I’m Stacey Case, aka the Pizza Freak. I write about pizza on my Facebook blog, but I love writing about all kinds of food in general. Like sandwiches. Who doesn’t like a good sandwich?
When I first moved to Cornwall in 2022, every restaurant and cafe was new. What a treat! A ton of new places to explore! Being a Cornwall rookie, I was curious about long-time establishments, that are beloved and have stood the test of time. There’s a small bakery and cafe downtown called Riley’s, and they seemed to fit the bill. Everyone I talked to would tell me how great their sandwiches are.
The first time I had Riley’s was for a film I worked on in 2023 in Cornwall, a horror flick called Deinfluencer II. The sequel to Deinfluencer. It was a five day shoot, and I was responsible for providing the lunches for the cast and crew every day. I shared the love, and spread the money around to five different restaurants and cafes. Riley’s was Tuesday. I got four trays of sandwiches and a variety of soups. The service was quick and friendly. The sandwiches – guys, they were ENORMOUS! What is it with Cornwall and large sized food? The homemade bread was sliced super thick, it was so fresh, and the layers of meat and cheese were of epic proportions. The soups were aromatic and full of flavour. Everyone ate their fill and commented on how wonderful their Inch was. I couldn’t agree more!
Speaking of wonderful lunches, I stop in at Bill’s Sports Bar sometimes, because my friend Jackie is a bartender there, and their lunch specials, served until 2 pm, are cheap, delicious and prepared fresh. I’ve gotten to know Donny the cook there pretty well, it’s always nice chatting with him. Jackie had told me that sometimes Donny makes pizza, that it’s really good, but I always seemed to miss the day he was making pizza. Then I lucked out. Wednesday pizza special, one slice all dressed with fries for $8.95. I ordered it, and was shocked at how great their slice was. Thick, cheesy, lots of toppings, what’s this excellent pizza doing in a small sports bar? It turns out the place used to be a pizzeria, they still have the oven, and Donny makes just one or two pizzas a week. I told him that at some point I’d be writing about his food and to hopefully expect more business, and he couldn’t have cared less. I love his attitude and I love Cornwall! Go order a pizza and bug the heck out of him…
