Trends Shaping the Face of Beauty This Summer

Summertime is one of the best times for Canadians. With daylight until almost 10 p.m., warm yet tolerable summer temperatures, and over twenty seasonal musical festivals across the country, summer is the ideal time to experiment with new fun and flirty looks while exploring summertime activities. Here are some new, light trends to play with going into the summer of 2019.

Coloredeye shadows are back.

Top celebrities and makeup artists are donning single color shadows this year. Blue eyeshadow is leading the pack as a new trend, while bright red has also made a comeback as a summer trend from years past. For those looking for a softer, more gentle look, mint green is a perfect shade to match mid-afternoon ice cream.

Super sun-kissed skin isn’t, though.

Iconic Canadian model Linda Evangelista was known for looking bronzed throughout her early career; she’s now one of the most outspoken models against skin-tanning, warning of its dangers and the potential of causing skin cancer. Many beauty bloggers are opting for more natural looks this season, sometimes even opting out of foundation in favor of a good facial sunscreen and moisturizer. For someone intent on having golden skin this summer, try a mild tanning lotion.

Ombre lip fades are the new matte

The end of 2017, into 2018, saw the fierce return of the matte lip, a trend which looks like it’s here to stay for the long haul. Some fashion forward agencies are, however, already tired of the look which, if not done correctly, comes across as bland instead of bold. The new twist for the bold lip is a sort of ombre—— keeping a matte finish, the look uses stains to create a fading effect, with blurred outer lip lines. This finish requires some different lip products than what most keep in their beauty bag, but it’s worth it for a fresh, avant-garde lip look this summer.

Graphic eyeliner is definitely still in

Instagram makeup feeds seem to be carrying the look of bold eyeliner designs into summer, with double liner, crease-defining and even geometric shapes taking front stage. Bright pastels are still having their moment, along with glitters, shimmers, and bright colors such as red and white are swapping the traditional black cat eye. For those seeking a more dramatic look, try experimenting with different designs when it comes to eyeliner; as long as the rest of the look is neutral and complimentary, it seems as if almost anything goes!

All’s fare in love and nails.

Definitely one of the more eccentric styles of the season, non-painted acrylics and intentionally unfinished nails were both frequently seen in this years spring fashion events. Neutrals such as peach, coral and caramel were also heavily featured, although this year saw a lot of different colors as designers sought to emphasize individuality for their models.

Overall, pastels, bold colors, and statement pieces seem to be the largest trends rocking this summer’s beauty scene. Colors such as mint green, teal blue and bright red are makeup favorites, but with so many influencers and icons in the field these days it’s safe to say any balanced experimentation goes!
