  1. CHOOSE THE RIGHT BAG

Getting an appropriate bag is the first step to packing light. It may sound insignificant, but women tend to fill up their bags, whether big or small. Choose a big enough pack to accommodate only your basics – clothes, some versatile footwear like Balenciaga shoes, toiletries and makeup. An oversized bag will coax you into throwing in extra unnecessary stuff just to fill it up.

  1. WEAR TACTIFULLY ON THE TRAVEL DATE

Whether it’s shoes, outerwear or innerwear, the trick is to wear the bulkiest item you are taking, especially on days that you have carry-on only. However, a lot more goes into choosing an outfit for travel day that is comfortable and stylish. It’s a good idea to layer on travel days, especially if you are airborne between climate zones. Look for a combination of quality and comfort.

  1. PACK ONLY TWO PAIRS

Truth be told, shoes can occupy most of the space. Even the most well-travelled women have a challenging time when it comes to packing shoes. The most vital part to consider when choosing a pair of shoes is comfort, style and versatility. You need two pairs of shoes; the one you will be wearing most of the time and an extra pair. You do not need to bring shoes for every activity you intend on carrying out.

  1. OPT FOR CLOTHES THAT COME IN SOLID COLORS

Be sure to select pieces of clothes that have solid colours. Packing matching colours will allow you to mix and match and create different outfits for different days and occasions using only a few pieces. Be careful to go for colors that go well with the destination. For instance, if you are travelling to an urban place, a combination of black, grey, navy and white is a safe bet whereas seaside vacation or outdoor excursions, call for whites, khakis and bright hues like yellow and orange.

  1. SELECT SIMPLE YET FUNCTIONAL ACCESSORIES

Be sure you carry a few key accessories to complete your look. It can be a statement necklace or ring and a killer earring. You can also improvise with the essentials in your luggage like using a sleek makeup pouch that can double up as an evening bag.

  1. GO FOR MULTI-PURPOSE TOILETRIES

When you are shopping for travel toiletries, get two in one product. Get a lotion that has sunscreen, shampoo that has conditioner. Stick to the basics, get what you must. When it comes to make-up, you won’t need an entire kit on your travels; waterproof mascara, eyeliner, powder, and your favourite day to night lipstick are everything you will need while you are away.
